Vandaag, we have Part 1 of a two part article, BALCO Chemist & EF Member Patrick Arnold's Shocking Steroid Comments on Victor Conte, Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield - Deel 1 - we'll have part 2 in a few days.
Here's More on Patrick Arnold and BALCO |
Former BALCO chemist and prominent Elite Fitness member Patrick Arnold has landed himself in hot water once again saying he has proof that some of sports’ greatest athletes ever are using steroids.
To say that the career of chemist and elitefitness.com member Patrick Arnold has been controversial is like saying apples are apples – It’s obvious!! I mean the man has been credited for being the first person to bring prohormones to the mainstream market with his most notorious one being androstenedione (a.k.a. Andro) which fueled Mark McGuire’s amazing record-breaking baseball season in 1998.
As if this didn’t provide enough material for the sports crazed media, he then went and created designer steroids such as THG (commonly referred to as “The Clear”), norbolethone, and desoxymethyltestosterone (DMT) that could be used by athletes without turning up a positive drug test (op het moment).
Not stopping here, Arnold (who has frequently posted on elitefitness.com forums under the name pa1ad) also supplied BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) with these designer steroids which were shipped to some of the top athletes in the world in sports ranging from track and field to professional football. Helaas, this also earned him a three month prison stint at Morgantown Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia.
Echter, since his release from prison, Arnold has vowed a life of “clean living” and wants to stay away from doing anything illegal. But if you think that means he’ll be any less controversial, then you’d be totally wrong. This is especially clear after some statements he recently made in an interview with sports broadcasting legend Bob Costas on the HBO series “Costas Now”.
The episode of Costas Now that Arnold appeared on revolved around the subject of Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record of 755. It was about more than just the home run record though as Costas wanted to take a deeper look into how Barry Bonds was able to reach this point – particularly in relation to alleged steroid usage by the Giants slugger.
And Costas knew that there was no one better to talk to about this subject than the man behind the designer steroids Barry was rumored to have been using during this incredible chase towards the record. So he called Patrick Arnold to be on his program and Arnold, who was appearing on national TV for the first time, definitely delivered.
The interview began with some informative subject matter such as explaining a little about Arnold and how during his teenage bodybuilding days, he began to dabble in steroids which led to his passion for practicing chemistry in the field of performance enhancing drugs.
Then the interview went on to explain how Patrick got involved with Victor Conte and the BALCO company. Arnold explained that Conte wanted to know if Andro would show up on an Olympic drug test to which Patrick said, “Basically I told him if you wanna go that route I know of much better things, and much better things being actual, newly derived synthetic designer steroids.”
The show went on to explain how Arnold created THG by altering the molecular structure of an anabolic steroid and making it so it would be invisible to a drug test. Taken in liquid form under the tongue, The Clear would become one of the most powerful steroids on the market according to Arnold.
But the merely informative section would end here as he would drop his first bomb of the interview when Costas mentioned how nine-time baseball all-star Gary Sheffield said he had never taken steroids because they “are something you shoot in your butt.” Arnold responded by saying, “That's an ignorant statement or it’s some sort of weird rationalization. Nee, he took steroids. This is a bona fide anabolic steroid.”
Then the interview started getting really good when the subject of Barry Bonds came up. Costas asked Patrick how much contact he had with Barry Bonds to which he stated, “I’ve never met Barry Bonds, I’ve never talked to him on the phone. All I’ve ever heard was Victor telling me how great Barry’s doing. Weet je, how Barry’s on the program. His reaction time is better than ever. And how he feels great.”
Costas asked Arnold to clarify what he meant by being on the program and if that meant Bonds was taking steroids. Arnold said, “I have a very strong feeling about it since he was on…the program. And like everyone else, the program consisted of... of The Clear.”
