Powerlifting for a base then bodybuilding ?

Can you train like a power lifter to get a good base then switch to the sculpting excersises and train like a bodybuilder ? I see alot of big guys, Im not like ronnie but he and dorian seem to do it. Im talking about lifting the basics heavy, like squats , deads, militery presses, and bench. The hit 2 supporting moves do them all heavy in the 4-5 rep range for 2-3 sets max ? This way you can put on a good base and then change to do it like a bodybuilder to shape things up....

You could do that...but then again there's nothing wrong with incorporating both. One thing that has worked well for me is keeping the core power lifts (deads, squats, and bench) at the center of my routines. Every week I focus on one power lift for a muscle group, going 3x6 or less with max weight, but continue to do all my other lifts in the 8-10 rep range with 4-6 sets. This has really helped to increase power and move up my rep weights a lot faster.

All I know is that I started making a lot more progress, with both muscle growth and strength, when I started training like a powerlifter.

The basic idea sound alot like 5x5 to me. From what I understand about the 5x5 program you pick a powerlifting move for your 5x5 and then pick 2 supporting moves for hypertrophy (2 sets of 8 or so).

What would your split be like?

So how , exactly, would one start training more like a powerlifter? Very curious...
