Toronto area people, get your gas right NOW..

Seashell

El Kabong
Platinum
It's up over 2.20 at some stations already, by this evening, likely the majority will be.

My boss just sent one co-worker out to find one around 104 and then we'll each rotate to fill up, lol, he rocks.

lmao @ people that are running all over north america filling up their gas tanks. how fucking long does one tank last you? a few days? it's not like you are filling up 3-ton barrels.

I'm in school and it was almost empty. I drive about twice a week. A tank lasts me a month.

then that is definitely worth it. and I am not saying filling up now is a bad idea. it's just that the level of panic about this (Oh my god! I have to fill up now!!!!) is not equal to the potential level of savings. also, it's reactive behavior like this that ends up being worse than the issue at hand in the long run.

$60 to fill up vs. $130 plus. I'd say that's cause for getting your ass in gear.

I hope this mad rush to the gas stations across the country causes more crisis and oil depletion. just to show how ridiculous the mob mentality is and how rare and precious common sense and foresight really are.

These panics cause lines at the pumps, causing shortages, causing higher prices.

Joey Buttfucko, gas has jumped up .20 in my town since this morning...makes pretty good sense to fill up, seeing as how they will continue to rise...sensical, no?

read my other responses. that explains my train of thought.

When it's about to more-than-double in price, and you're on the E, it makes perfect sense to get your butt out there and fill up.

Lasts me a week. By then, Rita-the-bigfatjerk will be long gone and prices will have dropped again.

KB, you know I'm all about weather & gas price threads, if for no other reason than to irk you. :D

Since you're already disgruntled, I will take a moment to share that today is a beautiful day! Sunny, warm, 23 C (73 F), no humidity detectable, with a south-south-westerly wind at 16 mph. The UV index is 4, which is moderate and the barometric pressure is 1013 mb.

2.20??? no fucking way.. its been avg about 98-104 in mississauga for a while... 2.20........no way....i get paid at midnight... so im filling up then...lol

As I stated in other thread, the inexplicable thing here is why we in Canada are paying through the rectum like this. Canada is an oil and gas exporter, we have our own refining and reserves. Why are we paying because the US market is getting it? I'll tell you why, NAFTA.

lol @ it being inexplicable and then you explaining it in the same post.

I was watching a lot of CNN last night, then went online at a Canadian board and noticed that the price of gas was starting to jump in Windsor/Chatham. I figured that the price increases were going to spread across Ontario like wildfire, so I actually got motivated enough to to out and fill my tank at 3am. I got gas at 96.9 per litre.

The sad thing is, I left the station feeling like I made out like a bandit or something. Fucking oil companies.

Then why did you answer it, Captain Manasstoucher

lol

It is inexplicable because under normal circumstances, we should be affected little if at all by what is happening in the Gulf Coast in terms of prices at the pump. I wanted to make the point that the only reason we are is because of the travesty that is the NAFTA agreement.

LOL, so true!! A few months ago we'd have been all bent about paying 96.. now it's considered a steal.

Someone deserves a wedgie.

I thought I explained this to you before, but I could be mistaking you for someone else on another board, so I'll explain it again.

A worldwide market dictates the price of oil. If the going rate for oil is 70 bucks per barrel, why on earth would a Canadian oil company sell their product for less than that? They're a business, after all, and are under no obligation to sell to their own country for any less...there are shareholders to whom they have a responsibility to make as much money as possible.

No, I should be hired so that I can invoke the article in the agreement allowing Canada to withdraw from this farce with 6 months notice and revert to the WTO.

This, I can see as being a future course of action if the US doesn't get it's head out of it's ass on softwood lumber. That, or we make it a package deal:

If you don't want to play fair on lumber, beef, ect.....then we don't sell you energy anymore.

Funny you should mention that. Pre-NAFTA, we had a made-in-Canada price for energy, Canadian oil and gas companies, and a 25 year reserve of gas set aside for Canada's future needs. A cold country, with vast distances, quite reasonably gave its own citizens a better price for oil and gas than it charged for export -- just as Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and other oil exporting countries do for their citizens.

Abundant energy was Canada's advantage in an era of world competition. China has cheap labour, the U.S. a warmer climate. Canada had energy.

All of that changed in 1988 when Canada, for reasons unknown to most of its citizens, signed the Canada-U.S. free trade agreement (FTA) and with the stroke of a pen gave away control of its energy.

The energy terms of the FTA bear repeating.

Canada abolished its reserve requirements for its own future needs -- so all of our reserves can now be exported -- and agreed to never charge the U.S. more for exports of energy than it charged Canadians. In addition, if Canada faced a shortage of any form of energy it would continue to send the same proportion of its energy to the U.S., even if Canadians went short themselves.

When FTA was expanded to include Mexico (NAFTA), they refused to sign the ludicrous energy clauses our government did. Who can blame them?

NAFTA strikes again. Someone in Canadian politics please stand up and start the ball rolling to abolish this shit.

I can't wait to get off work and see how many cars are lined up at the pumps as I drive by.

Yep, it's still at about $1.04/litre here in Kingston, and the gas stations are packed since everyone's anticipating it shooting up tonight.

sounds good to me... tho.. i had a can on b-fast beans yesterday... and dinner tonight was.... yep.. some kinda bean surprise... lol

im just waiting to fill up...and hoping its low... plus whenever i have to wake up5mins earlier to fill up, im always late lol

gas isn't measured in tons just like circular windows aren't measured in area

What happened today had nothing to do with the oil market. It was just some gas station who got pissed off and decided to raise their prices just to catch some atention. Same thing happened in Montreal. It lasted 2 hours until the HQs of these station took the phone and told them to go back to normal.
