Any guess at my bodyfat? And where to go from here?

Hey guys/gals.

This is my first picture posting on elitefitness.

I've been going to the gym for about 2 years now, originally solidly lifting weights to lose weight. Recently I got into using a cross trainer. I used to be a fatty (you can probably tell by my stretch marks) and I've really turned my diet around and actually enjoy going to the gym now.

1) What % bodyfat would you guess I am? I need to know this for calorie requirements

2) Where should I go from here? 30 min cardio EOD? Weights EOD?

All help and constructive criticism appreciated.

Hi Dave and Welcome

Nice to have more Brits on EF (I guessed it from the picture railings and coving in your pics though :) )

Congratulations on your weight loss.

I am not great at guessing BF%, but I would put you at somewhere between 15-18 %.

Tracking bodyfat is a good way to monitor your progress. I would recommend you get a pair of accumeasure calipers, they are on a few UK supplement sites, and on ebay, cost about 10 quid.

They are a one site measurement, so quite easy to do on your own.

Have you got a workout routine?

If you posted what you have been doing it may be easier to give you some suggestions.

Personally, I think too much cardio is over-rated. If you have been doing loads, it may be a good idea to take a break.

Hi Tatyana, Merry Christmas!

My proposals for a workout routine are floating around somewhere on this site, but to just sum up, I get an hours lunch (I work Monday - Friday) and in this time I get to use the cross trainer for about 30 minutes, I set the heart rate to 161, it gives me a really good work out. For the past month i've been doing this every other day, but I was thinking of stepping that up to every day in the new year as I really would like to become fit soon.

You could say my regime is a modified 3x5/5x5. Because, unfortunately I do my weights programme with my friends after work, alot of the freeweights are limited so I'm constantly missing out deadlifts and often squats. I've been trying to fit these lifts in my lunch hour as mentioned earlier. To put it simply, I do shoulders one day, chest the next (1 day rest) I always do some sort of pulling with that, lat pulldown, horizontal rows, I like to try and keep these heavy. For reasons unknown to me my shoulder presses are the same as my dumbell presses, 30kg.

As for my diet it's pretty good, it's every 2-3 hours that I eat. Lots of protein, clean to a certain extent (I like a treat once in a while but nutritionally my knowledge is very good)

My main problem now is knowing what to do, obviously I'm not in any sort of competition, bodybuilding/fitness has become my hobby and i'd like to improve the way i look. It's just a shame putting on mass and losing bodyfat go against eachother :P

Just added this in, might be important: 19 years old, 6ft, 15 stone, (210lbs)

What the hell's a "quid" Damn Brit's

I would guess 20 ish. Great that you have made so much progress, congrat's. Keep your diet tight and train to build muscle, instead of training to lose fat. You'd be suprised how fast the fat comes off.

hey bw1, a quid is slang for a pound, or a sterling, whatever.

This is my point now, am I dieting for bulking or cutting?

I want to lift for gains but I feel like i've still got alot i'd like to lose.

If it's not ready for me to start bulking yet, what should my cutting plan look like?

I'd say bf is between 20-25%

how much do you weigh? height?

no stones please....lol

Ditto on the prior 3 guesses. 22-25 is my guess. Definitely not lower than 20. I would say to get your diest in check and lift heavier. Results are always to be congratulaed but after 2 years (of doing ot right) you've have a lot more desnsity. Eat clean, lift heavy, drink water and sleep lots would be my advice.
