It was visually tight. Considering that almost nothing in the damn movie really exists, it looked very fucking good.

However, the story was not especially interesting or compelling for me. The ideas or themes expressed in the film have been done before, like everything has. That means future attempts can't be average or run-of-the-mill if they are to be effective.

The acting and dialogue were very straightforward as well. Standard. It didn't help engage me for the most part. For a movie to be great (in my opinion), it has to involve my emotions.

Cameron created an amazing world very effectively, but this does not deserve an 8.8 on IMDB.

It got much highere reviews on rotton tomatoes.

The only two movies that got better reviews are:

1- UP
2- The Hurt Locker

Avatar is only in the high 80s on RT. I'd give it a straight 80 if it was up to me.

Inglourious Basterds = high 90s, btw. A lot of movies that came out this year are better than Avatar.

The personalities in Avatar were so cold and lifeless and boring. No one in the audience could connect to them. Compare that to say Star Wars or Dark Knight where the characters blow you away. That made the movie a A-.

So much effort was spent on the 3d that no one spent anytime on character development. But who cares, it still made uber amounts of $ and that's all that matters.

I liked it.

Didn't love it, but liked it.

I am surprised that no one here has picked on Cameron's neo-liberal, tree-hugging, anti-capitalist hippie lecturing yet.

This commentator was a lot quicker onto that:

Miranda Devine

I might be a pink ass liberal myself, but even I found Cameron's holier than though attitude nauseating. So far into the future you would think that humans would have progressed from being greedy capitalist who will ass rape any planet and kill the natives.

b0und (liked Avatar, not a fan of Cameron)
