Tanning: How to minimalize any potential problems.

Seems that we've had quite a few people who've gotten melanoma scares.

Anyways, I'm writing this to make people aware that there are things you can do to pretty much minimalize any tanning problems to just about zero.

Your body forms melanin in response to UV Rays. Its the bodies defense mechanism. Once melanin production stops while you're on a UV bed or outside, the UV rays bypass the epidermal layer(That is now saturated with melanin) of your skin and cause damage to the cells. Which depending on the time exposed can mutate into cancerous cells.

What can you do?(These are all OTC supplements...I will not touch upon the melanin boosters as they are for the more advanced)

- Increase your bodies ability to generate melanin in response to UV rays.

1. L-Tyrosine is the limiting agent in melanin synthesis. 4g L-
tyrosine, 1hr before sun exposure is recommended. This
should also increase the colour of your tan(More melanin
being synthesized and prolong your tan as well.

- Take Cellular protectants. This in case the UV rays bypass your
epidermal layer. Take these 1hr before sun exposure.

1. R-ALA: 200mg or ALA: 600mg
2. Green tea: 1000mg(Standardized for 98%polyphenols and
60% Catechins...or more if you can get it)
3. Acetyl-L-Carnitine: 1500mg. ALA/R-ALA+ AlCar act
synergistically in protecting your cells from outside agents like
UV rays.
4. A combination of Vit. C(1g) and Vit. E(400IU). Also remember
that R-ALA/ALA recycles Vit. C and Vit. E...so these dosages go
a long way.

- So, to sum it up...before UV bed tanning or outdoor tanning
(apart from your sunscreen etc..)

1. 4g L-Tyrosine
2. 200mg R-ALA or 600mg ALA
3. 1000mg Green Tea(98% Polyphenols 60% Catechins)
4. 1500mg Acetyl-L-Carnitine
5. 1g Vit. C and 400IU Vit. E

Thats it. Not expensive at all, and it will definately give you piece of mind. I have been tanning outdoors and indoors for 6 years using this stack, and have never had any problems whatsoever.

a good zinc and copper supplement (as both are essential for melanin production)-

you will find that copper in particular is a common ingredient in the high end tanning lotions (as is l-tyrosine)

lycopene , lutein and also astaxanthin (orally). To find more details just do a search on one of them + UV and you find info.

I think they rated the potential of lycopene at SPF 3.
I think all of these are good to take so added UV protection is a bonus.

Why not just use a sunscreen? I like a 6. Sun has plenty of health benefits including inrcreasing hormone production. Just don't be an idiot and stay out too long.

Tyrosine supposedly increases melanin production but I suspect how effecive it is.

C is important for collegan but I doubt if any of the other supplements mentioned do anything at all.I guess you can say any anti-oxidant is benificial in some way.

i'd add resveratrol to that list.

LOL...we want to keep things relatively simple. If not, you'd have to take 50 pills to the tanning salon or beach just to tan.
The ones I mentioned are the most important and effective.
