I went ahead and registered for a mail-in ballot, and last night I sat down to review all of the issues. Damn, I didn't know we had so many candidates running for the presidency! My 12 year old is in on this whole discussion and my partner keeps exclaiming that Pat Buchanan is a female! After about the third exclamation and a somewhat heated debate between the two of them, I piped in with a terse statement. "Women make lousy leaders in a patriarchical society."

did i really say that?!

Your not alone. My X-wife feels the same way. But then again she won't even see woman doctor and she's an RN.

I actually think that women have excellent leadership skills, but what I find in the workplace is that in order for a woman to succeed in a traditional corporate environment she has to change the way she would naturally do things.... to play the game like the boys do ...which automatically sets her up for being labelled as a bitch ...which causes dissention and makes her less effective.

Barbara Bush, Ladybird Johnson, and Hillary all made excellent presidents!

Hillary SUCKS... or is it her husband that sucks... No, no, no. They BOTH suck, and Monica just got caught in the middle...

Some women make fine leaders. My last two managers were both female. And are among the top five "bosses" I've ever had.

My biggest complaint is that women today (in general) seem to want to have it all. Big importaint job, kids, husband (or as I've come to learn - significate other), and of course a killer body. But guess what, it really don't work to well. In the long run, something, or someone suffers - and it's usually the kids.

This thread may turn into a long one....

Two topics I rarely get involved in: religion and politics. However, in this case I will make an exception.

I am not at my own PC at the moment, but later I will give this thread the attention I feel it deserves.

Sherrif - I do agree to some extent. However, I don't believe that ANYONE HAS to suffer because a woman wants to try to exercise her freedom to be all that she can be. TRUE, many of the child-rearing repsonsibilities which were chiefly the wife's will HAVE TO BE SHIFTED TO THE HUSBAND. But I don't believe that this is a deteriment to the children, the wife or the husband. The father will have the opportunity which has arisen out of necessity, to develop his own parenting style and take a more active role in raising his children. The mother will have the chance to try to pursue her dreams, that though they ARE NOT MORE IMPORTANT than her role as a mother, are equally important for her sense of worth and self. And what of the marriage?.....If it makes it through all of the difficult adjustments necessary to facilitate such a grand undertaking, the marriage will not be an empty shell (as many "show marriages" are), but a fortress that can not be torn by even the greatest of life's tragedies.

Hi ladies;
being very new here I don't want to cause stress, but I fail to see how gender should play a role in politics, whether it be as your President, or my Prime Minister.
Britian had a very successful woman Prime Minister, and I believe India did as well.

Besides, I don't see how a woman can do any worse than their male predecessors.

Just my .02
Nice to meet you all.

I think its more an issue of character, not gender. I would have no problem voting for a strong female leader into any political position.

As to the gentleman who mentioned his wife won't even go to a female doctor... I totally disagree. I actually had Lynn Pirie as my doctor (she was a top notch competitive bb in the early 80s) and I think she is great.
1) As a weight trainer, she is more sensative to my personal needs
2) I am more comfortable being examined by or being nude around a female (I am not really homophobic, but just dont like having a guy grope me!!!)
3) Male doctors tend to be major egomaniacs... I know doctors fulfill a vital role, but they act like they are God sometimes
4) I think women tend to be more compassionate and more caring, which are important qualities of a physician in my opinion.

Plus women look better in hospital scrubs <grin>

I think we should change the constitution so Madeline Albright could have a shot at running this country! She's brilliant a fantastic negotiator, savvy and tough! At this point the rules state you have to be a born citizen of this country in order to be president but for cripes sake she's been here since she was a toddler!

Bikini Mom I agree with you... Nobody has to take a back seat because the dynamic of the family has changed...It really is a terrific oppotortunity for men in traditional families to be a part of their children's and wives lives in a more equal way...we oten talk about equality for women in teh workplace but I love the idea of offering men equality in the homeplace.... I have friends who have structured their lives around their childrena dn actually split their workdays and weeks so that the kids get equal time with both mom and dad! best adjusted kids I've evver seen!!!

Hehehe... Oh boy....what timing

From what I see out here in Ca, the kids are not the number one priority in many homes. Most women AND men have 40+ hour jobs, and when you stack on a very AVERAGE 60 minute commute time, ONE WAY, well shit. It's no wonder why there are so many problems with kids out here.

Bmom, the issue is not the restriction of freedom for women and to be all one can be, but rather an issue of focus. Dose anyone here work a full 40+ hour/week job, have one or more kids, and able to compete in BBing/fitness?? Please, let me know cause right now I can't see how it can be done. The only thing I see is working from home - impossible for me, but it might be something of a possibility for the wife down the road.

I guess I see my role, at least for the first year or two, as primarily supportive. Make sure we have a roof, food, transportation, medical, the basics. This is not to say I wont be around to change diapers and the midnight feedings. Im an old farm boy and have spent MANY an all nighter in the barn feed more than a few babies - and even delivering a few. I think I may even still have a pair of shoulder length rubber gloves
