I have not been very strict with my diet lately, I have been occasionally eating junk. I got very lean last year to the point that I did not menstrate for 1 whole year. Anyway I've been OK for about 4-5 months but I think I'm having a problem with water retention. I usually gain fat on my thighs and butt. It's seems as though I have cellulite everywhere, calves, biceps, waist. This is very devastating. I think it's water but could it be fat? I have never had cellulite in these spots. I'm not taking any sort of fat burners and I'd like to stay off everything for awhile. I've talked to my doctor but she says my body is trying to be normal again. She does not understand that this is really bothering me. Has anyone experienced this? I have decided to cuts all carbs this week, Is this a good idea?

I'm 24 and weigh around 115, 5ft1. I train about 5 days a week, 1 day cardio and 1 day weight training. I don't know my BF% and I don't think I want to know. My diet is 5 small meals a day, protein and carb. Sometimes I snack on fruit and nuts.

Go get your BF. It is the one true measurement by which we can use to determin progress. ------------------ Lobo

How many calories in those meals??
Do you mean 1 day weights.... 1 day cardio for 5 days or you only train 2 days a week? What can you bench??

Thanks for the responses. I did not know that much info was necessary to determine if I am just having a water retention problem. I thought it might be hormonal. Is there any women here that have gone through this? I can't imagine I put on all this fat on this quickly, especially on weird areas of my body that I usually don't have problems. How can you tell the difference between cellulite and water retention.

If yor training regimen consist of mostly cardio and your body fat is high than you are most likely in a depleated state so as soon as you let up. You're body is gonna bloat back up. This is MUCH more likely to happen if you have a high BF (small, soft and pudgy) And if you want me too spend some time and give you a thoughtful answer then do the same and answer my questions... tit for tat. I need info to give info. Could it be a hormonal thing? Yes, but your doctor will tell you about that. IG

There are 2 easy methods to determine if your problem is fat or fluid. One of them id the skinfold squeeze. Grab a fold of skin only (no muscle) and hold it for 30 seconds. If the skinfold gets 'thinner' over the thirty seconds you are holding fluid under the skin. The other thing to try is 5 days of NO SODIUM, low carbs and 2 gallons of water per day. Follow this with a day of herbal diuretics and if you see a dramatic difference, then you were holding fluid. If not much change, then the extra stuff is most likely fat. Most likely you have a combination of fluid and fat gain. This is common in women if they 'rebound' from a low bodyfat level, especially if your hormones had shut down for a while and are just starting to kick in again. Ultimately cellulite is caused by high estrogen levels. It is probably healthiest to allow your body to stabilize even though it is mentally painful to have the cellulite. With winter coming you could just wear less revealing clothes and don't look in the mirror. After a few months hopefully things will level out.

Thank you so much MS. You confirmed what my doctor said about letting my body heal itself. I will never go back to the strict way I was eating before. I read that I could have permanently slowed my metabolism. I would really want to urge women that have not had a period in awhile consider changing their strict pre-contest diet, especially if you are not preparing for one. There was no way I could be a slave to food forever, I am totally envious of girls that can. I understand now that those people had a great body to begin with, they just have to fine tune it. I going to try to be the best I can be, not Monica Brant. [This message has been edited by Jerichoholic (edited October 18, 2000).]

How does how much she can bench be important to her concern over cellulite?

I just used that as an example...( as in I need Info) .I just helps me build a mental image of who is doing what as far as training is concerned. IF your not comfortable with the questions SORRY... As far as your cellulite problem, this kinda thing just doesn't surface over night. you probably holding water(ripples) if your diet was as restrictive as you said.Kinda like a post contest Body Builder. This holds especially true if your had a LOW cal low carb diet and did not take in much water or salt.
