For over 2 months now my right hamstring has been "strung as tight as a guitar wire". Every couple of days it gets so tight I can barely walk. I had to skip my leg workout this week because of it. It doesnt feel like I pulled a muscle, there was never that type of sharp pain, it just gets tight as hell. Anyone ever have this problem? What could it be? Im thinking of going to a chiropractor to get it checked out.. maybe its got something to do with my back?? Anyone have suggestions?

sounds like you might need to spend more time working on your flexibility . The whole glute , lowback , hamstring area work together so a comprehensive stretching routine focusing on this area may reaaly give you some relief in short order . Also , if the pain is accute maybe a muscle relaxer or decent anti-inflammatory would be of assistance.

What's your nutrient intake look like these days? Sometimes, especially us females, tend to rob our bodies of much needed nutrients for the sake of leaness. It sounds as if you may have some sort of mineral/nutrient deficiency causing you muscle cramping. Just a thought. Take a look at your vitamin/mineral/nutrient intake and make an assessment. Also, ask yourself if you've done anything new or different lately. New suppliments, food items, or workout/cardio program? I've heard it said that sometimes new stuff/activities will stress our bodies in new ways causing us to deplete nutrient stores that we never have before. Make sense? Only MHO but I think something worth looking at.

BINGO WW! From your description Sassy, you have what appears to be a common calcium/magnesium/potassium imbalance. Every single client I have is required to buy the Twinlabs Multi Mineral Caps and the Tri-Boron Plus caps. (As well as the Daily Two multi vitamin.)

Take them as directed with the last dose right before your bed time.

I would get calf cramps sooooo bad at night a few years back. Now that I have resolved my vitamin/mineral intake problems - I sleep great and no more waking up screaming with my calf muscle rolled up to my knee.

I never thought of that! Thanks you two! I have been waaaay bad about eating right and taking the proper vitamins. Along with a new workout, that sounds like it could be the culprit. I appreciate your input.

It sounds more like a imbalance problem than a cramp so I would get my ass to the chiropractor or a good physio fast before you end up with more problems. I had a tight hamstring which came and went for ages - in the end I ended up with sciatica pain in my butt and then lower back pain went to the physio and it was all radiating from my lower back. One side was tight, my TVA was weak (Transversus abdominis),glute wasn't functioning on one side and a whole heap of problems, if only I had gone earlier when I first experienced pain I might have got to Nationals instead of having to have time off. Don't snooze you'll lose! Get it checked pronto.
