Is it okay or not to drink skim milk when you are trying to lose fat? I could drink about a gallon of the stuff a day but I have heard to avoid it like the plague - is this true?

I have been told to avoid all dairy products when trying to cut the fat. Talk about a hard sell for a farmer's daughter!

But I personally have never had a problem when I limited myself to two 8 oz glasses of skim milk a day.

Cheers,
Molly

I personally avoid milk.

Makes my stomach act funny.

I know guys who drink a gallon or more a day.And their gizzards pay the price.

I don't care what people say drinking alot of milk can't be good for you.

I would certainly not recommend it as a main source of protein in your diet.

If I were you avoid milk and cheese like the plague. Simply no reason for a human to drink cows milk. Besides we lose the ability to fully digest this stuff down at age 12.

I would say that if you have no gastro problems digesting milk, then there's no reason to omit it from your diet. Just count the carbs/fat and sugar like you would for any other food. I don't know many bodybuilders that don't down pounds of whey or casein protein all the time. The only thing that gives some people trouble is the lactose in the milk.

I give milk a big 2 thumbs up during any phases of my dieting. I have never had a problem with skim milk causing me to retain water or fat. I think most of these problems come with the 2% and whole milk drinkers. Just make sure you keep track of their calories like MS said.

I only have to give up dairy when I am a few weeks out from competition.

I use a 75/25 skim milk - water mix for my shakes. I got to say I like most everything about cows. Good milk, meat, cool leather, and of course you can't have more fun than a night of cow tipping! Well, unless your going to the state fair and doing the cow-pie toss.... now that is some damn excitment!

I've heard it said that dairy products cause a mucous build up in the GI tract and prevent proper nutrient absorption. Not a good thing when calories are already low. When dieting, dairy is one of the 1st things to go. I don't have lactose digestion issues like some, but I would rather eat the carb calories than drink them. Nothing like chewing satisfaction in a low cal phase. On the other hand, dairy is great when bulking. Particularly if trying to eat relatively clean. Good ole cottage cheese and pineapple is cold, sweet, and full of clean protein. OKAY Bmom, I know it ain't DQ but whats a girl to do if she wants to stay relatively lean and get a bit of size and strength at the same time?? MHO.
