Women Outlast Men During Exercise Sept. 30, 2000 Amy Norton Reuters Health Information NEW YORK -- Men's muscles may be larger than women's, but when push comes to shove the male muscle wimps out a lot sooner, research shows. Hunter's team found that although the men were stronger, the women were able to hold the muscle contractions about 75 percent longer. In fact, Hunter said, one "big, burly guy" held the positions for only 3 minutes, while one woman held on for an hour and a half. Previous research has garnered similar results for various muscle groups, but the reasons for women's greater endurance has been unclear. To shed some light on the issue, Hunter's team measured the electrical activity in the participants' muscles as they performed the exercises. There appeared to be no differences in men's and women's central nervous system activity.

Women are actually stronger than men from the standpoint of muscle fiber to muscle fiber. Men have more muscle fibers than women which let them move more weight, but the muscle fibers in women are technically more strong because of their shape and layout as opposed to men... Yeah... but I can pee standing up! HA! ------------------

When i was in the Army women could often do more sit-ups. I hear it had to do with the way their lower abs were built.

Interesting factoids folks. I've heard it said that the female endurance thing also contributes to why it can be more difficult for us ladies to rid ourselves of fat, particularly in those classically female areas. My understanding is that the ability to bear children contributes significantly to endurance, fat distribution and metabolism, abdominal strength and pain threshold. Kinda makes sense when you think about it. Particularly since at one time we not only gave birth on the plains of the Seregeti but had to now gather the rest of the kids and continue the journey. No more slacking in the gym ladies! WW

Reminds me of a joke... God walks into the Garden of Eden and strolls over to Adam and Eve. He says "I come bearing gifts for my chosen ones." ------------------

Joke #2: A woman is in the delivery room giving birth to her child. After a tough time, the doctor tells her "One more big push, come on" and the baby is born. The doctors cleans it off and the mother can see a look of concern on his face.
