ok, I looooooove soda. I don't drink the sugar stuff or the aspartame stuff. I drink RC diet with sucrolose. Is drinking this stuff just as bad? Is it just the sugar kind that is bad? I think I am addicted to the carbonation first and and then the sweetness. Any ideas on how to quit? My brother says cold turkey which I have tried but then craved the sweetness really bad. I've heard that glutamine helps with sugar cravings. Does anyone know about this? Thanks.

I have been addicted to soda ALL my life. I haven't had a soda in the last 3 weeks. I used to drink between 12 to 16 cans a day. I started reducing the amount and got down to three cans a day. About three weeks ago I started a serious diet and had to stop drinking soda alltogether and I thought I wouldn't be able to stick with it, cause I hate drinking water.

I was told that I absoultely had to stop the sodas or I would not see the changes I wanted to just as I had not seen them in the past. So I stopped drinking diet soda and started drinking water, but late in the day I would get the sweetness cravings. A friend suggested I try Crystal Light which has 5 calories but no sweet additive and that's been the answer for me. I add in the calorie count in my diet so as not to drink too much but it sure cuts the cravings.

Chromium Picolinate helps with the sweetness carvings too, but I don't take it. My husband has a major sweet tooth and the chromium is the only thing that helps control it.

Hope this helps you out.

It is best to stay away from diet soda. Even the RC soda acts as a diuretic, and this is opposite to the hydration that you should aim to achieve if you want to be lean and add muscle. The same is true of coffee and tea. It doesn't mean you can't have these drinks. A good rule of thumb is to drink an EXTRA 2 cups of water for every cup of soda/coffee/tea you drink. This is 2 cups in addition to the gallon or more you should be drinking every day. If you think you can handle that much water and trips to the bathroom then go for it. But in the long run, you are better off to get your sweet tooth under control. This means you need to somehow stabilize your blood sugar with proper meal timing and macronutrient ratios.

Try drinking the carbonated flavored water you can get from Wal-Mart. Then wean yourself off of that. Gum and Altoids also work well for my sugar cravings. Also, there is a new Altiod type mint out that is caffinated!

I have also heard that snacking on protein helps, but it has never worked for me.

high protein/low carb diets always cause sugar cravings for me.
