I think we're going to need to know a bit more about you. How much do you weigh, how much fat on ya, what (other than sex!) exercise are you doing. It shouldn't be a problem getting enough fiber if you get all your carbs from whole grains and fibrous veggies.

Is that 1 Tbsp flaxseed per day or per meal? Have you estimated your approx daily protein and fat intake as well as carbs?

Here's a breakdown of what works well for me (individual mileage may vary)
I'm 5'5", currently around 155 lbs (LBM around 132 lbs) and on a cutting diet that looks something like this:

Meal 1
Whole Grain carbs******40 grams
Protein****************40 grams

Meal 2
Whole Grain carbs******30 grams
Protein****************40 grams

Meal 3
Whole Grain carbs******20 grams
Protein****************40 grams
Broccoli**********1 cup florets

Meal 4
Mixed Fibrous veggies**2-3 cups
Protein****************40 grams

Meal 5
Mixed Fibrous veggies**2-3 cups
Protein****************40 grams

Fat grams depend on the grains and protein eaten, but are very low. Some women do well with a bit more fat in
their diet form sources such as flaxseed or EPO. A tablespoon sounds good to me.

This works out to around 1600-1700 cals

200 grams protein
150 grams carbs
20-25 grams fat

I have one high carb cheat meal each week.

I weight train 4 days per week, and gradually increase my cardio as my body adapts to the diet. Hope
this is helpful.

Wow, MS, looks like we're about the same size and I've just started my diet so this looks to be very helpful for me. I have a question, though. What counts as "whole grain carbs"? Thanks.

Youre gonna want to toss out the protien bars... they have lots and lots of sugar! If your serious about cutting, you should avoid sugar like the plague!

Da Bomb: how many calories do you eat each day, and what is the break down of those calories (ie, protein, carbs, fat)?

MS has some great suggestions as far as a cutting diet goes. She's probably holding more muscle than you so you may need to adjust calories accordingly.

I also get very hungry at night so I boil 6-7 eggs and mix them with mayo, mustard, and relish(eat 1 yolk). Then I drink a big glass of water with Metamucil. You will feel like your stomach is full and it should really help with the hunger. (not to mention your system will get CLEAN!)

I definitely agree about the protein bars. Read labels VERY critically and avoid sugary stuff if poss.

Whole grain carbs can be all sorts of things including oats, brown rice, millet, grits, barley and even lentils, beans, broad beans or garbanzo beans. Just try to limit refined, instant or otherwise processed grains. As far as calories go, it depends on how much of a hurry you're in and how much cardio you want to do. Because I'm dieting for a show I tend to go lower in calories than I would recommend to someone who is just trying to drop a few pounds for a school reunion, wedding or vacation. I also don't do as much cardio until the last few weeks. If you have some idea of your active metabolic rate then a good starting point is to reduce your calories by 300-500 calories a day below that, and increase your exercise by 300-500 calories per day. This will give you a fat loss of 1-2 lbs per week.

And I like metamucil to fill me up too. I especially like the orange flavor. Probably has aspartame or some other horrible substance in it, but sure tastes good!

May I please get your opinion on my post-workout meal? I work out at 8:30-9:30 at night and at about 9:45 or so I have a MRP called Muscle Meals from MuscleLink. It has 40gm protein (blend of complete milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, egg albumen), 10 gm glutamine peptides, 1.8 gm conj. linolic acid, 2 gm sugar, 10 gm of carbs (maltodextrin), and "anticatabolic fat" (sunflower oil, lecithin, borage oil, med chain triglycerides, mono and diglycerides {3gm polyunsaturated and 4.5gm monounsaturated fat}). And of course a bunch of vitamins and minerals. Does this sound ok? It sits well in my gut and seems to help keep the DOMS to a minimum. It has 324 calories, but it IS my post-workout shake. The bad part is I go to bed around 10:15-10:30. Let me guess, this is horrible????

Heh heh, I dont know about old commercials (Im 30) but I know I cant live without my fiber drink (store brand of Metamucil (sp?))
After 500+grams of protien a day good sex and a good bowel movement can run neck and neck in priority...

...and the prior often follows the latter! After stewing at work for most of the day, letting one loose is a cause for celebration. Afterwards I can get quite frisky! (not RIGHT after... that would be gross) But when I get home and "go", jump in the shower and change, it can be a toss-up between working out and workin' it out! I always end up going to the gym, btu my wife most always goes too, so between her and the other little fitness bunnies there, she knows that by the time were home theres gonna be hell to pay! (Ive been especially bad this cycle)
