I am starting to wonder whether i am eating right in the morning, since I am seeing almost no results. I am at the gym by 5:00 am, since cardio is best done on an empty stomach, i do my cardio first, followed by a quick breakfast of 4 eggwhites and plain oatmeal. I have to eat before i lift, because i am hypoglycemic, i feel nauseous and light headed if i don't eat right away, plus i have no energy to lift as heavy as i would like. Does anyone else have experience with early morning workouts? How should i go about eating? I know it's best to eat right after you lift, it comes out that I eat right before. Oh, and I cannot go to the gym twice a day, so please don't suggest doing cardio in the morning and lifting at night. Thanks...

I would suggest you eat a low GI meal, do your weights first, then cardio, then eat a higher GI meal afterwards. Unless you're 2 weeks out from a show, you should always prioritize your weight training and eat around that activity.

Well I'm at the gym at 5am too but I don't do cardio AND lifting together...

So I make up a protein shake w/water and 1 tsp of flax (about 22g protein) as I'm heading out the door. Then immediately after lifting (and I mean in the locker room) I have some "fast" carbs...cold high fiber cereal (I like Kashi Good Friends) with 1/2 sc pro powder (about 11g protein) and 1/2 c skim milk.

I used to never eat before working out because I was up so early...but I've found that eating this has helped my energy, strength and also muscle stiffness.

Maybe you could do cardio, have the shake, then eat right after?

I agree with MS - lift first, cardio second.

I too am Hyperglycemic, and feel nausious when working out. And I work out about 6 am.

I do cardio first because fat loss is always first and foremost for me. Then I lift.

I have gone to the gym on an empty stomach to optimize fat loss. Should I be eating/drinking something before I go?
Or do cardio on an empty stomach then eat/drink before lifting?

I do have a teaspoon of glutimine before I had out and it seems to keep me from tyring out as early in my lifting.

Any input appreciated!
