Okay, I give. What happens when the thyroid degrades? What are the symptoms? How is it detected? Is it true that there is a percentage of the population that 'thrive' with a degraded thyroid? Is it true that all/most/some people with degraded thyroid function are overweight?

not all thyroid problems lead to obesity.

I was in a car accident in January where I fractured by spinal column. After all the time spent on IV's and in ICU...my lack of food intake killed my thyroid levels...and I lost like 40lbs in about a month.

Most people can still function with thyroids that do not function properly.

Thyroxine and triiodothyronine do have a direct affect on glucose oxidization...they can affect the way the body stores excess sugars and the metabolism(heat production).

THE THING IS....your body on stores what you eat. If you are eating well....and your thyroid is wacked...you will not get fat..

most doctors no longer surgically remove thyroids....you either take T3 or they make you ingest radioisotope-tagged iodine.....which destroys hyperactive thyroid cells.

when you say degrade....I take it you mean it does not produce enough thyroid...as in hypoactive.

Most symptoms include weight loss, thirst, restlessness, memory loss, muscle cramps, dry skin, achy joints, feeling cold

If you are eating stuff with lots of sugar...or you are consuming lots of sodium...which attracts extracellular fluid...you can experience a weight gain from bloat.
