Hi yah, Anyone out there got any tips on applying either of these products? Everytime I use protan I end up a mess, I coat - shower in the morning, recoat again at night - shower again the next morning. I do this 3 days before a competition but I end up going patchy, the stuff seems to just dry and not spread on. As for the competition tan by Jan Tana - well that's even worse. So any wee tips you might have would be HUGELY appreciated. IP: Logged |

I've only used Jan Tana and I love her products! I've had nothing but good experience with them. Use the PreTan Scrub to remove dead skin cells and prepare your skin for the other products. I love to use the Shower & Bath Gel. After getting out of the tub or shower, I like to apply the Deep Moisturizer. It smells wonderful. A few days prior to my competitions, I use Show Tan. (I've never applied the Competition Tan, so I don't have experience with it.) Be sure to used rubber gloves when applying the Show Tan as it can get messy! Good luck! ------------------ IP: Logged |

For my last show here is what I did. Take a shower and shave everywhere that needs to be shaved. Also, loofa everywhere to remove all dead skin cells. Then two coats (or more, each about an hour apart) of pro tan the night before the show. The next morning I put on one more. Wait about 1/2 hour. Then put on a coat of Dream Tan. Warning, make sure you wear old clothes to the comp as Dream Tan comes off on clothing. Once at the comp, apply another coat of Dream Tan, this time thick and heavy. Dream Tan is almost like a very thick hand cream. Let it air dry for 10-15minutes then (as the directions state) pat with an open palm to smooth out and remove streaks and blotches. Several hints, make sure you have plenty of latex gloves and soap. Bring a roll of paper towels and old bath towels. As you sweat while warming up or pumping up, dab with the bath towels to remove running sweat. It will leave tracks. This is how I prepared. Also, it is obvious that you need at least one other person helping...two is better yet. I had two and I couldn't have done it without them. By the way, to remove all this stuff, again loofa in the shower. It will take about 30-40 minutes, but it will leave you with a golden tan for a week or two! By the way, I received more than one compliment on my "color" while both backstage and from people in the audience. [This message has been edited by CONAN (edited August 09, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Almost forgot Extra.....sleep on "old" sheets as self-tanners do sometimes rub off during the night while sleeping. Also, wear an old t-shirt to bed. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks for the help everyone, any more tips still appreciated! By the way I have tried Dream Tan and I do like the colour etc but I want a good undercoat so to speak. The only thing I disliked about the Dream Tan was the fact it comes off so badly. Also I too have been told serveral times my tan colour is fantastic - so it should be, last time I ended up with Protan, Jan Tana plus Dream Tan over the top. Lastly-how do you get your face looking good???? Buy a dark foundation or what????? IP: Logged |

I've seen people put on nothing but a thick coat of dreamtan just before they step on stage, and as long as they're careful about smearing it off (use gloopy hairspray to 'set' it) they look passable! As for the face, a lot of women find it works well to mix a little of their base tan in with their foundation or a moisturizer. A couple of light layers of this stuff makes you glow with health!
