Well HERE is a question I'd never thought I'd ask....in thinking about a thread a while back about how women in particular are always trying to lean down and build muscle at the same time, I realized that there is going to be a time in the near future that I won't want to loose any more fat. GASP! Who said that? Me?? Queen of "just 5 more pounds"??

Anyway - I'm wondering what a good rule of thumb is on increasing your intake. I'm sure it takes some experimentation. Just wondering on what your thoughts are on this.

As in all things, it depends on what your goals are. Remember that to lose the fat, you've probably changed several aspects of your 'normal' lifestyle. You've decreased calories while increasing protein, you've increased meal frequency, you've increased the amount of time you spend doing cardio, and very likely you've also been taking ergogenic aids such as ECA, Clen, T3......

So going into a a 'maintenence' phase may not be just a diet issue. You could do it by eating the same amount but doing less cardio, or by stopping ECA. You can increase the total calories you consume, or merely increase your carb intake while dropping your protein. You could try a cyclical approach where you eat higher cals for a while, followed by reduced calories so that you are constantly fine-tuning your intake to achieve maintenance. What will work best for you is something only you can decide. If you hate cardio, you may choose the reduced cardio method. If you LOVE to eat, then you may have to keep the cardio in. If you're a bingeing type personality, you may spend the rest of your life 'cycling' calorie intake!

Binging type - yep thats me....so to cycle a higher intake of cal's, do you start at like a 10-15% increase? My average is 1900cal (thats with a few cheat days here and there) so that would bump me up 190-285 cals a day. And how long do you suggest going higher? This would definately keep my metabolism guessing. Or do you just mean because of my binge mentality I would continue on the same plan and just take the cheat days in stride? I don't do a lot of cardio (45m 2days, weight train 4 days) now but am taking adipo. The adipo could certainly be dropped once I reach my desired goal.

Goal: now there is the million dollar question. I don't have one in terms of numbers really. Weight doesn't matter to me any more. BF is 17-18% - I wouldn't mind being at 15% but I won't really know what that looks like until I get there. I'd like to build more upper body, lean out lower body. I'd like to get stronger all the way around. Frankly I've never been in this position before of really being close to the image in my head of what I would like to look like. Its kind of freaky!

Thanks MS - as always helpful info.

You might want to try a zig-zag approach. Start slowly with (for convenience) 5 days of "dieting" with the weekend as a free for all. How well this works depends on how bad of a 'binger' you are. A more sensible approach is to zig-zag, but on the weekends have a controlled increase in calories, especially carbs. This will help keep the metabolism confused. In theory, if you are 500 cals in deficit monday to friday, then this gives you and extra 2500 cals to eat spread evenly over Saturday/Sunday. This zig-zag approach is nice because you can adapt it to special occassions (weddings, thanksgiving or whatever). It's kinda nice to eat "normally" on special occassions without feeling guilty!

I would definitely recommend dropping the Adipo. Long-term health risks aside, it's good to desensitize your body to that stuff so if you DO ever need to drop fat again, it will still work for you.

In my "past life" my binging was horrible...I seem to be on an even keel now, but I still notice the tendancy to over-do it.

The adipo I've only taken for a few weeks - off on the weekends. I definately do not want it to be a long term thing.

I'll have to experiment with the diet, see how it feels etc...again..many thanks for your input.
