I am going to rant here a bit - hope you don't mind but I need to get this off my chest! Twice in the last week I have unavoidably found myself in a restaurant needing food. Now I expected the menu choices to be pretty damn limited but at restaurant 1 they had a chicken breast smothered in mushrooms and cheese, with green beans and baby red potatos, its noon and this is the meal where I need a starchy carb and damn it not only do I need it but I WANT it. I tell the waitress I want the chicken breast grilled and she can keep the mushrooms and the cheese - am feeling pretty satisfied with myself at this point. Then the meal comes and those baby red potatos are FRIED!?! We go thru a whole big thing but the bottom line is that is they way they are. Restaurant 2, Mom is taking me out to lunch at a mexican place, no big deal - order the chicken fajitas. Now I don't know what they did to that chicken and vegetables but I strongly suspect that they marinaded it in LARD, I'll spare you the gory details but suffice it to say that I spent the whole night in the bathroom. Going out to eat is no longer a part of my life, from now on it is just me and my cooler. The up side of the whole shopping trip with mom is that I came home with a new home gym and 300# of new weights! Temple IP: Logged |

Just a thought - if im going out to a nice restaurant for an occasion that I have to be at I always call ahead and see if or how they can accomodate me. Usually they are pretty good about it and tell you what they can or cant do. Avoid fast food pretty much......Chick-fil-a not too bad for griled chicken. IP: Logged |

My major problem eating out is not enough veggies (or they are coated in grease), too little protein and major awful carbs. There should be a chain of restuarants geared toward bb/fitness people. IP: Logged |

About the only real way to eat out anymore is to go a high end resturant, order a premium steak (medium rare, no salt) and a plain bake potato. More than likely they will screw up the potato with butter and sour cream (gag), but it is easy enough to fix that. Personally, if I am going to eat at a normal resturant...it is a cheat day and I an not really caring what I eat as long as it tastes good! I may feel like sh!t afterwards...but hey...there are always prices to pay. IP: Logged |

Actually I have been pretty lucky in this respect. I give VERY SPECIFIC (I know, Dlady - grilled chicken sounds pretty fucking specific to me too, but we're talking 16 yr old minimum-wage-earning kids) instructions and usually the restaurant is very accomodating. Believe it or not I had the most difficulty at a seafood place - down the Jersey shore noless? And yes, I have been to restaurants and functions were I brought my cooler and tupperware, if people looked at me funny, I just ignored them - they wouldn't get it even if I did try to explain. i was thinking the same thing. Steakhouse...maybe Outback Steakhouse. they have a meal called chicken on the barbie that is sooo good, but so healthy at the same time. 8oz grilled chicken brest with a side of steamed veggies (broc, cauil, snow peas, carrots, and squash.) i stick with all carrots though and no butter on the veggies. 8.99$$ you can also add another 5oz brest for 1.99$$. skip the salad, since all the dressing are high fat and skip dessert. cheap and healthy. if you like steak try a filet or sirloin. can anyone tell where i work??? later- dr IP: Logged |

hehe...makes me remember the time that I was dieting for Ms. Fitness a few years ago...we went to Black Eyed Pea, since I knew I could get grilled tuna steak there and fresh green beans. Anyhow, I'm placing my order, and after saying that I want 2 servings of the green beans, the waiter tells me that the "green beans aren't in season"! I nearly bit the poor guy's head off! I was with my brother at the time, and he had to calm me down and convince me it was ok, and I could just get a side salad instead. Sheesh! I was a dieting bitch from hell! I don't go out to eat much, because I don't trust the cooks...I mean, who knows what they really put into the food that the menu claims is "healthy"? I don't trust 'em! ------------------ IP: Logged |

The idea of a body builder restaurant is really tres chic. I think it would only work in cities that have a high population of gym goers. Daytona Beach has a cool one next to East Coast Gym--Luigis Cafe. They have an Arnold plate--2 Chicken Breasts, Low fat pasta salad with veggies and a small whole wheat roll. Yummy too. Fast food restaurants just plain piss me off. I can't go there without getting into a fight. I avoid them like the plague. What part of no mayo don't they get? IP: Logged |

The steakhouse option is a good one except that I live in the heart of cattle country and any steakhouse in our area is proud to serve only Prime beef - even the round steak is heavily marbled - now that I think about it so are most of the people here. IP: Logged |
