Ok, I've got to share this with you guys. 18 days ago I decided to let the old ball and chain train me at the gym, prepare meals etc. Heck I have a 15 yr class reunion coming up! Drastic times deserve drastic measures. Either 1. I'd be in the best shape of my life for my reunion or 2. I'd be divorced. I was chatting with the other chicks at the gym in re: to diet and routine that the old man put me when the FAT aerobics instructor piped in. She explained about how it will inevitably fail because I was eating too much and not doing enough cardio (only 2-3 60 minute sessions a week on the stair climber) and doing too much weight training. This was 18 days ago. At any rate, she and her friend saw me last night training with the hubby and her friend came running over "OH, my God, wow, you look great! Your abs are showing! I've got to get that diet from you." Needless to say, Miss Know it all was PISSED! She would not even look at me. Ok, I know this is catty but it felt so good. I'm so sick of aerobic instructors preaching die hard aerobics 24-7! I smiled the rest of my measly 60 minute joy ride on the recumbent bike! IP: Logged |

It's an uphill battle. We can't expect to change the world overnight, look at what we are up against. Talk to people, educate people and one by one we will win the war. It is a revolution, a nutrition revolution that one day WE shall win. It the last few weeks I have managed to convert two, High Carb, Low protein, low fat eaters and it looks like riptchick just got one too. Power to the Builders!!! IP: Logged |

99% of gym trainers don't know shit about reality when it comes to nutrition and bodybuilding. Think of it sort like your SAT's or a school entrance test. Sure, they are certified because they passed a test but those tests and classes are VERY old and do not take into consideration the latest supplements, training, and recent developments. All the trainers at my gym are fat, hairy, and ugly. i laugh when I see them training someone and really pitty the person being trained because they have no idea that instead of spending 60 minutes stretching and doing 10 year old nautilus machines, they could be doing real workouts. And what is with all the fat aerobics instructors? I mean, these fat women are surrounded by mirrors and yet they can't see how fat and nasty they look...and in those tight spandex outfits! What is it with fat women that makes them completely ignore what they see in the mirror anyways? In case you fat chicks haven't recognized this, the mirror doesn't lie. If you see flab hanging off of your belly then guess what?..There is flab hanging off of your belly! If you see dimples and saddle bags on your legs, then your nasty ass is fat and needs to LIVE on the cardio machine. Sorry about my rant...I just don't understand how people think they can overrule what the mirror says. And what is it about fat chicks commenting on other fat chicks!!!???...man, I could go on for days here! IP: Logged |

One of the best compliments I receive is when the aerobics instructors at my gym approach me and ask me to take their classes (which, aside from kick-boxing and spin, I NEVER DO). I smile and say, "I've got three left feet - believe me, you would not want me in your class - messing all the people up and stuff (which I do, but that's besides the point). And they have actually come out and told me, "If people see you in my class then they will think they can look like you and they will come and take my class." I'm thinking, "What's wrong with this?" If all that there aerobicizing did dick for your body then wouldn't you (the aerobics instructor) look LIKE ME and then people would want to take your class so they can look like you?! I swear to God I feel so sorry for those women in there KILLING themselves, about ready to drop dead of a heart-attack, and nothing ever changes. IP: Logged |

Certificates and degrees don't always mean the person has put it all together into something meaningful. I wrote a diet for my step instructor and she is ACE and NASM certified. She just hasn't been able to apply that area of her knowledge, I guess. It seems to me that a lot of these personal trainers that I see at the gym are not really dedicated to their clients. I see some of these trainers with clients for over a year and they haven't changed!!! I would fire these guys asses in a second. One woman I knew got frustrated and got liposuction because she thought something was wrong with her and she just couldn't lose bodyfat. I felt like telling her there was something wrong with her trainer. I have used trainers at different periods of time and coincidentally the ones I chose always seemed to turn out to be ex-marine corp. drill instructors and ex-competitive bodybuilders. They have that excellent combination of knowing how to get on people in a controlled manner and plenty of knowledge from years of competing. I think the drill instructor background helps because they know how to manipulate you into doing things you never thought you could do. And one guy I picked early on was a powerlifter who followed some powerlifting team around the country. He helped me get my base. I also hired an ex-IFBB pro when I got ready for my first show and a national level competitor. I have found BBs to be far better trainers than people who are just certified and fit or whatever. Aerobics instructors are good for aerobics classes, which is just another tool you might want to use. Everybody has their nitch. I wouldn't ask aerobics instructors for diet advice - go to BBs or ask BBs who their diet person is - like a Kim Oddo or something. If you're serious enough to spend money, seek out the real trainers - ask competitors who to go to. The top ones have different people for different things - ask who their diet/nutrition person is. These are the types of trainers I have had the best experience with and would recommend to anyone who wanted to make a real change. Don't go for the trainer who is training the average person - go for the trainer who is training BBs. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I am living for the day that this happens to me - we have a whole group here in this little town who attend every weight watchers meeting, they walk God only knows how many miles every morning, then go home and do Tae Bo, then go to the school and lift weights?? then are out running every evening and are still bitching about all their cellulite and bemoaning the fact that at the rate they are going by the time they are in their 60's they will have to do aerobics from the time they get up in the morning until they go to bed at night just to stay ahead of the fat. I seem to be on their current recruit list for the "club" as they have noticed the 35# weight loss and tried to sell me on the NEW weight watchers plan which from what I understand gives all foods a point system and hey you can go to McDonalds and pig out every day but that is all you get to eat for the whole day and they guarantee that you will lose weight on this program which I am sure thatyou will - Goodbye Muscles!!! I am living for the day when the bodyfat is about 14% and the muscles are popping out because I know that at least one of them will break down and ask how. Will they listen? probably not cause this is the same bunch that says "just don't lift too heavy honey or you will look like a man" - why do they always whisper that statement anyhow? In case anybody is wondering I am going through some serious sugar withdrawals right now and am bitchy as hell - I never realized how much of the white stuff I consumed without knowing it. Can anybody tell me how long this is going to last? IP: Logged |

It sucks at first, but soon you do stop craving the stuff - then your tastebuds DIE altogether and you eat for one reason - no more pleasure - just nutritional value, then you'll actually LIKE the taste of yams and chicken and eggs and oatmeal and broccoli and MRP and the occasional protein bar will be CANDY - and people who look like shit will look at you with envy and say, "I can't give up eating whatever I want." - and you'll say, "But I DO eat what I want, we just WANT DIFFERENT THINGS!!!" ok, im lmao! you guys are right on the money! i have been totally getting into the "right" way to eat and workout for the first time in my life now and cannot BELIEVE the results! i am eating the 5-6 mini meals a day ,balanced protein and complex carbs, and have cut WAY back on my cardio and increased my lifting weights and amounts of sets. im looking BETTER than ever, and have dropped 18 lbs as of today! effortlessly may i add my body composition, skin, hair and nails have never looked better either. i pity the women that havent seen the light yet, but i too get all the negative comments, like im not doing enough cardio, eating too much protein, etc. etc. etc! im sick of listening to all the bullshit, so i dont even tell people about it anymore. screw em if they dont want to listen, right? have a great day, and just keep doing what youre doing, the proof is in the mirror wendy IP: Logged |
