![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am curious to know if anyone has had hip replacement surgery? If so, can you tell me anything about your experience? How different before and after as far as training? ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry I can't give you any first hand experience, but given that you aren't getting any responses I thought I'd try for some second-hand experience. A few years back, I had some interactions/involvement with three individuals that had joint replacement. The first gal I met doing Ride the Rockies: an exhaustive bike ride through the mountain range of Colorado. The average day ran about 80 miles and would include at least one mountain pass. This gal was in her ?50's and had just had hip replacement surgery. She was doing wonderfully and didn't appear to be undergoing a lot of pain. Cycling is low impact. Another gal had broken her elbow on a cycling trip and ended up with a joint replacement of the elbow. This gal is more of the runner type and tended to pamper that arm. Strenuous wear on that one can necessitate subsequent surgeries to reduce warn away segments of the bone replaced with longer prosthesis. The third is my father and his knees. My father is not active, but is definitely going through life more confortably with his new knees. Take from that what you will. Sorry I couldn't offer more. ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the attempt. I really wasn't expecting any responses. This isn't the most common surgery and probably one that would retire most competitive BBs. I thought there might be an outside chance of maybe one person who had undergone this. Most people who have this type of surgery are older than 20s, 30s. They don't like to do it that young unless you are in really bad shape. I do know a woman who had it in her late 30s, but not a BB. I was wondering what it was like for a BB to go thru this. I know it gives relief from the pain, but for people like us, pain relief isn't quite enough, if you know what I mean. Thanks. ------------------ IP: Logged |
