I've noticed lately that there has been a lot of discussion about diet and changing bodyfat percentages. I know that diet is crucial but we haven't talked about training too much and I thought that I would add that people who are relatively new to training and want to drastically improve their physiques need to adhere to big basic movements in the gym--squats, presses, etc. I don't see alot of that in the gym and kinda feel like women need to train that way as way to build a little mass. Far too early in the game for me to worry about isolating little muscles (I am not saying not to do this..no one get excited)I'm just saying that I think compound movements will give you a solid base to start. I'm just following the advice of people I trust who all suggest BACK TO THE BASICS. Whaddaya think? IP: Logged |

I with ya!!But I think we covered this topic before, most newbies come here for Steroid advice and I don't even want to open the whole diet issue again my skin is still scorched.Besides unless someone wants specifics the basics have been all layed out there for all, anyone who serious about there training would not come to this board as their first source of info, I consider these forums the Finishing School of Training Philosophy where specif questions get answered. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Basic rule. This is a board about anyhting related to womens fitness and bodybuilding. Surley that includes training advice! Of course there's nothing as good as having a real trainer in front of you to make sure you're doing everything right, but I think we have a responsibility to point women in the right direction for their goals. For some this will be more diet oriented advice, others may need specific exercises and weight rep and set advice. Don't worry too much about the scorch marks Iron God. When it heals the skin will be thicker! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I've said before that the big compound movements are pretty much all I do. The results are amazing. We need to get more females involved in this type of training - using the free weights rather than machines. And to break through the "I'll get too big" syndrome!!! We love ya IG - scorch marks are a sign we care!! IP: Logged |

Gotta add my humble .02 to this one. Basic is all we really need. I've heard it said that machines are for and most were designed to work around injury (or piss poor form). I always get more bang for my buck with squatting as opposed to leg presses. Something that works though is to use a basic compound movement as your foundation and throw in a machine for a quick finisher. For example, start out with your squat (5x5) and throw in a press (3x8-12) to completely trash the muscle. It helps to do the machine things after the 'big stuff' a) to prevent sloppy form due to fatigue and b) to have the energy required to go 'all out' on those important compound exercises. My humble .02. WW IP: Logged |

i prefer free weights..as most do, but i also like most of the movments of machines...for example, pec dec, leg extensions, calf raises, leg curls, lleg presses, pullodowns, pressdowns...machine and cables shoul be worked in in a good training program. ofcourse, it all depends on where you train..and what equipment you have available... ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica IP: Logged |
