Let's face it Bodybuilding is definitely a sub culture. Anyone who doesn't lift doesn't understand the frustration of getting a little yolk in your egg whites. I know I freak out at the smallest set backs and occassionally get depressed when I don't see results fast enough. I fortunately have someone to help keep me motivated. But there are days when I just do not have a good workout and somedays when I have to beg someone to please drag my ass into the gym. Anyone got any tools for motivation that works for them when they are suffering from "THIS AIN'T HAPPENING FAST ENOUGH SYNDROME?" P.S. This board helps alot.....

I have a great photo I keep with myself most of the time. I love to take it out and think to myself, "You've come a long way baby." Who is in the photo - me: ten years ago, in a two piece bathing suit (How I allowed it to be taken is another story.), with tons of cottage cheese poring down THE FRONT of my thighs, and a pooch that screamed, "4 months pregnant" (No kids, though). This gross photo (which I now proudly whip out a moments notice when I get comments like, "Oh but you're just genetically thin." or "Well you probably just always been athletic.") and the knowledge that I am a living example to my girls that strength is beautiful and knowledge is power keeps me going.

Besides, why wouldn't I go to the gym regularly when I have at least 2 hours of peace and time to do what I love while my little monsters are wreaking havoc on some other poor schmuck in a safe secure environment just a few feet away?

I get motivated every time I look in the mirror and see progress. I just have to think about how I looked last year to remember how far I've come. That and clothes that I bought just last month I've taken in once and now they are too big again already. Nothing makes me work harder than seeing cuts in my legs, abs and arms. Honestly, it feels like its happening to another person - it hasn't quite sunk in yet that "this is me".

My motivation is myself. i get proud of myself when i finished a good workout, and when i look in the mirror and see whats going on. unfortunately i dont have any friends nearby who share my love for the iron game..heck, i doubt there are anybody in my part of the country who likes it as much as me.

ive tried pulling in workoutpartners for motivation, but that didnt work well. Im not the kinda guy who want to go to the gym, and then ending up waiting for my training partner. so i guess if i were to have another workout partner it would have to be a gf who loved the sport as much as me. but finding one of those is not easy. but hey,im still young..and single lige aint that bad

oh yeah, another motivational factor is this board, its great to have somewhere to get in touch whit fellow iron brothers and sisters.. thanks ya'll

skydancer, when you get to where you want to be maybe you should consider getting photos done by a professional body photographer. There is nothing like having your body, your work of art, immortalized as art in photo or whatever medium. Whether you show another living soul or not, YOU have it.

Bikinimom - believe me thats run through my head a few times. I can't imagine anything more awesome than looking at a pic and saying 'holy crap - thats me!'

MrM's right though - its difficult when no one around you supports what you are doing. I'm in the same boat. Thats why I am here!

I attended the NABBA World Amateur Bodybuilding champs this weekend. Incredibly motivational. The BEST class of the whole show was the Master's!! They looked better than most of the open competitors, and they were all over 40 years old. Made me realize (again) that this is about body-for-life, not body for a moment in your youth. That's what keeps me going when the progress is slow or non-exsistent. Say NO to decrepitness in old age!

Yeah, that is something good to remember. That the changes to come will be happening for the rest of your life if you keep up this lifestyle. That's what I prefer to call it. There is nothing just "fleeting" about it.

bikinimom-LOVE your name! I take such pride in the fact that I CAN wear a bikini after 2 kids! I, too, have a fat picture I keep in my gym bag (3 actually). I love telling people I weighed 208! I just recently started posting-but LOVE reading what everyone has to say. My boyfriend and now this board are my motivation! Thanks so much for all the awesome info!

I've got NO PROBLEM sharing the "fat picture" (as long as I don't get yelled at (or flamed as you all call it) for posting the "Oh-My-God! My-Eyeballs-Have-Dried-Up-In-My-Head!" picture. If anyone wants to see either' let me know how to post!

hmmm, good topic
my main motivation is me... and to train to keep in shape and stay healthy
but I have to admit, going to a good gym (I go to a World's) and seeing other serious lifters can give me a boost (especially seeing serious girls throw some weight around)
