As a guy, I want to know if there is any negative talk about men who wear muscle shirts in public. Does it send the wrong message or is it attractive provided you got the guns to show. Lemme hear it strait. IP: Logged |

I think the mall would be a fine place to wear a muscle shirt...but again only if you have muscles...I think it looks really silly when you see a guy in a shirt like that and he doesn't fill it out...I would suggest wearing a muscle shirt to dinner or church...but like FitnessChick said, if you got it!!! I regularly wear nothing but a muscle shirt and a g-string around town. Ive never gotten any strange looks... Unless its a formal occasion, then I go all out and wear a tank top and my "Home of the Whopper" boxers... IP: Logged |

Okay, well why is that the biggest guys in the gym don't wear muscle shirts. They all are wearing long pants and sweat shirts. Even in the summer!!! Is it modesty or intimidation? IP: Logged |

I'll tell you why Texas Guns... Its because us men who are really built and muscular (magazine style) don't really need to flaunt it. I enjoy a good sweat by wearing full length clothing in the gym and quite frankly I really don't enjoy people staring at me which is what happens when I wear a tank top or even a t-shirt. As a bodybuilder, I am not concerned with showing what I have but my own mental desire to achieve what I want. And as far as muscle shirts, what actually is a muscle shirt? How can this thread even start without someone even defining what a muscle shirt is? we all have different definitions of that. IP: Logged |

What comes immediately to mind is the those long thin tank tops that show everything! Definitely not something a women would sport unless she was having dollar bills thrown at her!!!! Thus my definition of the "Muscle Shirt" IP: Logged |

Not that I'm all that big or anything but I ALWAYS wear a tee shirt, a sweat shirt over that, and some type of sweat pant. It also keep me warm and the joints work better that way. Not to mention ya don't funk up the benches. (yes F-U-N-K, it's an old term that needs to be used more these days) The only time I don't is when I'm working at home and use the mirrors to work on form and see how the muscle is responding to different exercises. And this leads me into a big pet peeve of mine. You ladies out there who wear them skimpy, ass showing, tit swinging in the breeze, workout closes need to dress more appropriately. If I can easily see the camel toe as your stretch pants continue to ride up the crack of your ass then IT'S TO DAMN TIGHT! And you wonder why guy pigs in the gym slobber all over the workout equipment as their neck does a 360 as they walk by while your doing leg curls.... OK, switch'en to decaf for my next cup of coffee. WarLobo: Bro, I couldn't disagree with you more! I agree with WarLobo IF you are NOT fit. If you are over 20%BF then yes, please put some clothes on BUT ...a HUGE BUT...if you are fit, toned and in shape, damn it, PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!!! wear the stuff WarLobo is talking about. My girl wears this stuff and she is right out of a magazine. No joke! It makes my workouts (and others I am sure) go by better. The best gyms I have ever worked out are the ones that had the most fit girls...can't really explain it. Not because I am a perv or because I am one of those guys that spends 10 minutes working out and 90 minutes galking at women but because it just motivates, energizes, and entices one to work out. Damn bro...I dare you to post this crap on the anabolic board or the chat board! Well, the chat boards seems to be packed with homos these days so maybe there.... First, I am a guy, happily married to a great women and not a gay bone in my body. My opinion is, and it is the rule that I follow, men should/can wear muscle shirts at home, on the beach, in the park, place like that. But is stores, resturants, places of buisness, Nah! Now as far as working out, I wear a sleeveless shirt when I am doing shoulders, or a Bi/Tri combined work out, and shorts for legs. Why? Because I like to see the muscle work/strain and then I know I am hitting it right. It allows me to concentrate more on the muscle I am trying to work. For everything else, long pants and a baggy t-shirt. Cheers IP: Logged |

BigPoopa, Let me re-phrase: "...need to dress more appropriately." Didn't not say to wear baggy cloths that cover up every bit of the body. There are plenty of well fitting and good looking outfits for women. Hell, wife is a fit model for a local manufacture/designer so I know the do exist. And your correct on the overweight leotard wearing crowd. I do not mind what-so-ever that the out of shape folks are at least trying to get it back, but often they could use a wee bit of fashion assistance.
Laboob p.s. figured I'd have some fun with our handles :p IP: Logged |

Sorry for the confusion. My definition of the muscle shirt was that it is only for men and NOT something a women would wear because it covers nothing. Sorry if my words did not match what I was thinking. Still having a hard time. BTW did someone say it was okay for a woman with 20% to wear those tight workout clothes? Mrs. TG IP: Logged |

I said 20% because...well....I was stretching it. Didn't want to offend anyone of the lovely ladies on this board. You want my REAL opinion? Any woman with more than 10%BF should not wear that. You also have to have muscle...good muscle. You can't be an ethiopian with 8% bf and think you look good either. IP: Logged |

Muscle chirt, then i immediately think about something real tight. now, i think males with great bodies can wear this, why not? some girl might think they are showing of, and some girls think its hot. we're all different. and hell, if people can go with theire pants down on theire knees, showing theire undies, then why cant we wear our muscle shirts? ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica IP: Logged |

I couldn't resist a reply to this. I thought a muscle shirt was very much like a tshirt with no sleeves?? A string tank is just that, a tank with 'string' for straps. Then we have the standard tank with a 'scoop' back, and the ever popular 'racerback' or 't-back' tank. As far as who wears them, if you got the goods, go for it. If not, don't. I agree with those of you who don't feel the need to get the stares in the gym. If you want the looks, get it while you can, cause as we all know, youth is fleeting. Also I think the right place and the right time are things some of us take for granted. Outdoor casual functions are ideal for more revealing clothing. If you're inside at the local Ponderosa buffet, cover that shit up. Some folks' grandmamas dont care how big and buff your guns are. Let's take them into consideration. My humble .02. WW IP: Logged |

I do believe that a man with a good body can wear a muscle shirt. i don't think it is a good idea for an out of shape guy with either tiny little arms or big fat nasty arms to wear one, and as for the womens dress code i think that unless you are really fit and in shape women should NOT wear tight pants and little shirts! i am a long shirt and sweats or maybe shorts if i'm doing cardio kinda girl cause i know better then to go to the gym in skimpy clothes! not even close to that yet!!! This has got to be the most entertainment I've had since a stupid old bastard had the fu$*ing nerve to jump on my leg press while I had the "nerve to wander away from it" 'cause I was supersetting with hack squats. Anyway, when I come back, hurtin' but rearing to go there is some old fossil sitting ON MY sled about to have the weight (girly weight, if you ask me and I can say that 'cause I'm a girl) of 180 lbs come crashing down on his geriatric old a$$. Then he stumbles to the water cooler while trying to maintain some composure and runs into the locker room. Serves him right - stupid, old, no-gym etiquette a$$hole! (I'm an not the least bit a senior hater. Heck, I intend to live forever myself. I have the utmost respect for my elders. THIS GUY was not one of my elders.) What was the topic of conversation? Oh yes, muscle shirts and coochie cutters in the gym or whatever. My opinion is that one should always use their mirrors and their brains. If you are hard and fine then by all means show it - remember, a thing of beauty is a joy forever. Having said that, just remember, no matter how beautiful your physique is, male or female, you are going to look pretty darned stupid wearing any sort of T, muscle, string , tank, whatever, on a job interview or your cousin Gertrude's wedding. But then again, this is only my opinion. IP: Logged |

Yeah men who wear floss tops or spandex to gym to me seem a little on the funny side. I personally don't wear them because I can't stay heated in one and my joints and body cool down too fast and my muscles get cold. But I do wear shorts on legs day. My girl (Fitness Chick) tries to get me to wear these bozo lifting clothes out, but I guess I'm from the old school of collared shirts tucked in, belt and slacks, besides the truly large and powerful need not such vulgar displays of there masculinity. ------------------ IP: Logged |

No, I know what you mean, I wore baggies and stupid shit back in the 80's. I meant clothes that are not made to show off physique. I'm old enough to admit to wearing shorts with those long socks that go all the way to your knees and taper off with horizontal stripes. The shorts for men were shorter then too, do you remember? Looks totally gay by today's standards. IP: Logged |
