This is LisaLove. I had to re-register because the board is not taking my password!?!? A few of you have talked about acne meds from your doctor. I am experiencing about 1 new zit a day on my cheeks and chin(of all places) and its just about killing me! I have never had acne problems and can't seem to control it with washing and caring for my skin. Please help me find a solution and also if you could please explain possible side effects from acne meds that would be great! IP: Logged |

Oh Dear! JuicyGirl-I hope your new name is not a description of you zits. Bleck. I have no helpful advice to offer, just felt like saying that. Sorry. If I knew what to do I would not still be getting zits at the age of 40. And My lying mother said I would outgrow it. Hmph. ------------------ IP: Logged |

i just started taking BIAXIN XL (foil tabs)for the same problem. it takes 6 days of taking two pills once a day then lasts for the month. i have one more day of taking the pills and i am done. who knows if it will work. also, ask your doctor about Zithromax ( Z pack) and Erythromycin liquid. i am really dried out though with the BIAXIN XL. i'll let you know if it helps. make sure you are not washing your face too much (which i have done) otherwise breakouts will continue. dr IP: Logged |

I HATE ACNE! So what to do.... Well, that is one of the great mysterise on which we as male users of A/S debate endlessly. Go to your doc is my first sugesstion. They often don't think about a women "being on" and they will get you some stuff to help right off the bat. Best thing you can do cause let me tell you, very few OTC shit works. dont wast your time with the otc stuff....warlobo is correct...it all sucks...dries your skin so much it goes into compensation plus some mode...in other words, your skin will produce extra oil to overcompensate for the dryness caused by the otc crap (like oxy)...see a dermatologist.... insurance will usually cover it...if not, consider it $ very well spent.... Im using anitbiotics post cycle, clomid made my back break out. So far so good, you have to have really bad acne to get accutane. Dermatologist also told me to stop taking so many showers. (I was taking 3 a day) She said that only helps spread the infection- IP: Logged |

Hey Fitness Chick- Thanks for your response. What is it you actually use? I can purchase meds from Mexico if I need to go around the doc. I don't think it's as bad as I need for accutane. And MS- Thank God my face is not juicy- just a little bumpy thanks to the primo! :-) IP: Logged |

Not sure if i can help or not but i have tried Retin-A before. It eventually worked but it also makes your face dry and red... my face actually looked worse before it got better.. I just bought a facial tanning lamp just for acne breakouts... im not sure if it will serve its purpose, but my face stays clear if i stay in the tanning bed so i thought this might work!!! Also there's no need for foundation which helps keep pores clean!! IP: Logged |

Hey, Just a thought but you may want to give accutane a try. Consider this a warning...It is hard on your liver especially if you are on a cycle, you may be subject to monthly or bi-monthly liver testing. It will dry your body out tremendously. I mean everywhere from your face, to your lips, to vaginal dryness as well. However, the results on the acne are phenomenal. Its up to you to weigh the pros and cons...I will try to find more info on it for you! ------------------ IP: Logged |

OK, I posted the same thing on the chat board under the accutane topc, but i will repost for you:Accutane
I. Definition: Isotretinoin (trade name: Accutane) is a powerful drug used in the treatment of acne. Four to five months of isotretinoin treatment usually leads to clearing of acne for one year or more after the medicine is stopped. Most other acne-controlling medicines are antibacterial agents, which are effective only if the medicine is used daily.
II. Side Effects: Why shouldn't all acne patients take isotretinoin? Isotretinoin has significant side effects: Side Effects: Frequency: Chapped lips 90% The most damaging side effect of isotretinoin is serious birth defects if taken during pregnancy. It is critically important for women not to take isotretinoin while pregnant, and not to become pregnant while taking it. Women who are, or expect to be, sexually active while taking isotretinoin must use an effective method of birth control. This usually means oral contraceptive pills and one other additional method of birth control such as a condoms for the male partner. A woman who does get pregnant while on isotretinoin must be prepared to have an abortion and must state this in writing before many physicians will prescribe isotretinoin for her. A women who has taken Accutane should not get pregnant until one month after stopping the medication. After that time, it's safe to become pregnant. Because the birth defects caused by isotretinoin are so serious, it's important not to share the pills with others. We don't know whether isotretinoin taken by men can cause birth defects, so it's best not to get a woman pregnant while taking isotretinoin. If she is not using birth control, the man should use a condom. There are a few reports of patients having decreased night vision after using Accutane. One patient still had problems six months after the drug was stopped. If you experience trouble with your vision while on Accutane, call the office right away. Some people develop headaches while on Accutane. If you develop a persistent headache while on Accutane, call your physician right away. A persistent headache, which will not go away while on Accutane, can be dangerous and you should stop the medication. Accutane rarely causes depression and thoughts of suicide. If this were to occur stop the medicine immediately and call your physician.
III. How does isotretinoin work? Isotretinoin decreases the amount of oil produced by the skin's sebaceous (oil) glands. It may be as long as two months before you see improvement in your skin. There's no medicine we can add to speed up isotretinoin's action. In fact, sometimes acne gets worse during the first month or so of treatment. Side effects, such as lip dryness, begin before the acne starts to clear.
IV. How To Use Isotretinoin: Take the medicine with food, you can take the entire daily dose with supper, this increases the absorption of the medicine.
V. Long-term Results: Isotretinoin isn't a permanent cure for acne, although it often buys time until nature clears your skin. Your skin may stay clear for months, even years, after isotretinoin is stopped. In about one person in 10, acne comes back after one year. About one person in four has acne again after two years. If your acne returns, antibiotics may work, or you may be treated with isotretinoin again. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Novacet-Lindex gel was one- its a yellowish cream.....the other one, I cannot remember, & I have none left...It was a clear thin gel to apply at night, I think It was for drying purposes, had kind of the same effect as alcohol, only with much better results & less dryness....came in a white metalish tube, about the size of my hand, I believe it had black & green writing. Ok, heres an acne treatment (2 actually). Number 1 During my heaviest cycles (1500mg sust a week and up) Ive had almost no acne troubles with this routine. 2 or 3 times a day I wash (my whole body actually) with an antibacterial soap. Dial has a nice line of anti bacterial bar soap. Make sure the soap has NO lipids in the ingrediants on the label (or tallow, but I dont hink anyone uses tallow anymore anyway). After the shower I use a moisturizer, and the key is HYPOALLERGENIC and PERFUME FREE!!! Gotta keep the irritants away, as I have sensative skin anyway... Before bed I do the soap thing, but instead of moisturizing I clean my whole face (and any potential trouble spots) with an astringent (clean 'n' clear). If any specific areas are really dry and NOT experiancing acne, I'll put a little moisturizer on 'em so they dont get flakey. Number 2 p.s. accutane and retin-a will work, but you have to try and avoid sun exposure while using them. Tanning while using them will make you red insttead of tan. and dont use oral gear while on accutane, as it is liver toxic. IP: Logged |
