I just got two of the zone diet books "Enter The Zone", and "Mastering The Zone" by Barry Sears. Over on the diet board they talk about it quite a bit, and one guy swears by it (which is partly what made me want the books). I was wondering if any of the ladies here have tried this diet. I am looking for one that I can use to diet down for a fitness competition, but I don't want one that is toooo crazy too follow (keto diet!?! yikes). Looking for input as to what others think, and if my boyfriend and I have wasted our money with these books? Thanks. ![]() (P.S. I haven't read the books yet, just got them this morning......working on it though) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think it's another one of those 'try it and see for yourself' diets. Nutritionally speaking there's nothing mystical about eating in the zone. You still have to take in less calories than you burn to lose fat. For a read of how some of the anti-zone crowd feel, try reading the debate at http://www.drmcdougall.com/debate.html I think the ratios of macronutrients used in the zone might be OK for a bulking phase, but I personally wouldn't try to get totally ripped for a show on it. Let us know if you try it and how it works for you pretty please. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'll let you know how it goes, I think I may try to start it right away. My competition is in June, so if I start right away and its not working for me, I will have time to change to something that will. Anymore input on it would be great. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Fitgal, I am currently on the Zone diet, I really like it, mostly because I am one of those people that has to have everything spelled out for them! It is my belief that all the hormone stuff that he talks about is crap, but it you look at all the "zone blocks" and count them up calorie-wise, they are very low in calories, and high in protein. I am using it for my "gain mass, lose fat" cycle, it is working very well for me. I will warn you though, as I know several people on it, you will start getting weird food cravings. I have started putting peanut butter in my broccoli! I know- totally gross. :-) If you would like some recipes, email me, I have several. Good luck! Molly ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For me the Zone is too low calorie...even for cutting/losing fat. Its not a follow forever and ever plan. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I agree with you sky that the diet is not for ever and ever, but just like my weight and cardio routines, I change my diet frequently. At around 500-600 calories a meal, and I do five to six, I don't think that it is too low cal. Molly ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You are right Molly - you CAN tweak it and come up with a better intake for the day. If I remember correctly the book says not to go above a certain calorie level to stay in "the zone". The highest intake I think was 1500-1600cals. Well DUH, if your intake is low enough, of COURSE it will work. he he he. ![]() ------------------ [This message has been edited by skydancer (edited February 07, 2001).] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks Molly, I may take you up on those recipes. It will not be a way of life for me, I just wanted to try it to diet, to keep energy levels up. A guy at the diet board always raves about how good it is, says he didn't even have to do cardio to lose weight. I will be doing a lot of cardio ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
