Author | Topic: Beginner needing advice for inner and back thigh muscles
Novice ![]() Posts: 2 |
Hi folks, I'm a beginner but I'm hoping it's ok to post to this board. I figured since the people I want to look like hang out here you are probably the people I need to ask for advice. Anyway for a little background on me. I've been ill for 3 years and the medicines the doctors prescribed while helping with pain and other problems made my body pack on fat like a walrus. Basically I looked and felt like a slug. Now that I'm feeling better I've dropped the medicine and have been doing a lot of cardio stuff to get back into shape (running on a treadmill 30 mins, riding my bike for 30 mins). I'm 5'2" and currently 147 lbs. So I got a LONG way to go. But I've already dropped 1 jeans size and I've noticed my face is getting slimmer so I'm happy about that. I've been working out for about 5 weeks and recently starting doing some lunges and squats with a 15 lb. bar. The thing I hate the most are my inner and back thighs (they look horribly squishy and flabby) and my butt. Are there any strength exercises anyone can recommend that will specifically zap those muscle groups? I don't have the money for a gym right now or I'd join one in a heartbeat. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sounds like you're on the road to recovery. Squats and lunges are a great place to start. Stiff-legged dead lifts are great for the hamstrings and glutes as well. Try clicking on the search feature to find some basic information. Oh, and welcome aboard. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Welcome to the board, and you may post any time you feel like it! Just keep doing what your doing and slowy start to incorporate some free weight lifting. It's going to take time. But you have made some great progress. ------------------ Lobo ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I worked out at home for a long time before being able to afford a gym. You CAN make changes w/at home use of dumbells/barbell. Yes lunges, squats, stiff legged dead lifts are all great for legs. Don't forget to work your calves AND your upper body. Overall muscle development will help tremendously in changing your body. Welcome aboard here and keep us posted! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

bicycling and weeding are both excellent for the butt and hams. Rollerblading and skiing (if you're geographically blessed with slopes)is possitively the bomb when it comes to your hips and IT band, giving you a nice shape on your outer curves. You most definately don't have to have a gym membership to get into shape: you really just have to get off the couch for an hour a day. The wonderful thing about engaging in 'fun activities' is that you're likely to exercise longer without that "i'm punishing myself dread". I swear, one hour in the local roller rink with my daughter and my knees are wobbling. Also, if you have stairs I'd recommend 'step-ups'. Grab those dumbbells and slowly go up and down the stairs. That will concentrate more on the center cut (ie, the biceps femorus, semitendinosus, and Rectus femorus). PS - Welcome aboard! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks everyone, My only question is - what is a stiff dead lift? And how do you do it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hamsterdance, To see a stiff-legged deadlift in action, go to this site: http://www.planetkc.com/exrx/WeightExercises/Hamstrings/DBStrBackStrLegDeadlift.html They also have video clips of other exercises. The main page (ExRx Online) is: http://www.planetkc.com/exrx/Exercise.html It's an excellent site. I'll nod in agreement with what's already been said here: stiff-legged deadlifts, squats and lunges are wonderful. They completely re-made my lower body!
