Sadly enough in our society such undue pressure to be thin has pushed so many to anorexia & bulemia----I know many women on this board who have battled it out, and there may be lurkers who battle it still....some may still battle with esteem issues regarding appearence.....

Check out the stories of one fitness lady who overcame it all...some inspiration...

Great stories - thank's for posting them FC. I think if women could see more pictures of beautiful strong healthy women rather than the sad weak bodies of fashion models they're used to seeing, it would help immensely. I don't think most women have ANY idea what a fit woman actually looks like.

Years ago there was a story in Parade (I think it was Parade) about an older woman who took up bobybuilding in her late 50's. They had a picture of her at age 70 or something like that, and it was absolutely AWESOME. What really struck me at the time was that even if she had been 20 rather than 70, her body was still awesome.

I wish I had saved the article, because I think her picture was the impetus for me to start weight training for real - not just the little pink dumbells anymore ! It was during that journey of rebuilding my body that I began to let go of my eating disorder.

It's taken many false starts, but each time I'd make a little more progress. The best thing was learning I could build muscle, weigh more, look better and EAT more without "getting big". I'm still a work-in-progress, but I never imagined myself actually being happy in my own skin. So, stories like that DO make a difference!

can relate..I suffered for 12 years dropping to 76lbs (I'm 5'5 1/2"). Now I am 112 and so much enjoying getting into strength training that I wouldn't go back for anything

I was playing with my niece the other night & just noticed now how they have even changed the figure on all the "Barbie's"
she has a little belly & huge hips now. I was laughing about it, although it does make teens do extreme things nowa days.

I am over that have been for awhile!
