Okay, I was going to try to compete in September, but I don't know if I am going to be ready or not. I have a before pic, but I am not going to post it on here (it was taken Dec 7th 00') I have been lifting since February of last year, but have been athletic and strong for almost my whole school career. A little about me...I am an only child, so my mother tended to want to live her life through me. I was a chubby kid, so when I was in the fifth grade(I cringe at the thought now) my mother made me start running 3 miles 5 times a week....IN THE FIFTH GRADE!!!!!!!! It got so bad that she would follow me down the road in her car and proceed to tell me how many MPH I was running and telling me I show be able to go FASTER! Of course my mother is overweight. She is one of those people that has lost all her weight numerous times and always gained it back. We used to get in fights and she used to call me a "fat cow" because I didn't look like she thought I should. I also wasn't as "skinny" as my friends were. I am 20 years old now, and to this day I can't begin to count how many fights we have been in over this. Every time I go home for a break in school she tells me how I look like a football player. She asks me if I've "lost weight." I don't know how many times I have lied to her about my weight. If she knew that I weighed 155, she would DIE! I am only 5'6" but I have a lot of muscle. I am so frustrated about this because I don't have any support from her about my bb excursion. She tells me I am just getting too big. I can't believe this. I actually want to do this. Can't she support me for this. I mean, HELL, it is healthy! I am not into any bad things---can't she just accept the fact that I want to improve my body??? Uhhh...I get so pissed at her sometimes. Anyway, now that I have vented about that. I have a situation here. I want to compete in September, but I don't know if there is a chance for me. I don't have but about 15 lbs. to lose for this competition. I don't think I would look right if I lost anymore than that. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should continue to bulk up (I have been doing a program that FC put me on and I am much stronger) or if I should start eating clean and just maintain what I have until cut down time. I am SO confused. This will be my first contest. I need help from anyone that is willing to help me. I know that this board has a lot of great people that give a lot of great advice, so please help if you can. Sorry about the venting...it just gets to me sometimes. And people wonder why I am so self-conscious (I have NO confidence AT ALL). Go figure. Thanks for listening... Night Fly ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well you've got to vent somewhere! September is still a loooong way off. With good training and nutrition you can put on some more muscle before you start your diet. With only 15 pounds to lose you shouldn't panic, though you should email FC or WarLobo a photo and see if they agree. You should avoid dieting for any longer than 12-16 weeks MAX IMHO. This only requires you to lose around 1 pound per week, which is nice and slow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Venting?? You call that venting.....? That was an easy read compared Bmoms ![]() MS is dead on. Sept is long way off. No problems with dropping 10-15 lbs. Start eating clean now - that's something you should always do. I'll wait for a few more to chime in fer we go into other details.

Well reading between the lines here --- Seems as if the problem lies with your past issues w/mom and self esteem issues rather than the losing 10-15 lbs..To be honest, losing the weight will probly be easier than healing all of the wounds that your mom has caused throughout your life...but, it can be done! If you focus on eating healthy, bb, and gaining some confidence, Im sure you will do great ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks luv2workout--I think you are right about a lot of that, although it has always been hard for me to lose weight. I do know that September is a long way off, but I guess I am worried about what I need to do until then... Do I keep bulking or not...Can you bulk while eating clean? I always find it hard to bulk up and eat clean because I don't get all the protein I need. I always have to eat clean, too, because I gain weight very easily. Sucks, but that's something my mom gave to me. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

NightFly, I second what MS said ---You should post pics or email them to one of the "experts" on this board and they can help you w/a plan...Hard to say whether you should bulk, maintain, whatever w/out having any idea what shape your in, know what I mean?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Night Fly - I'm wondering if you've cut down to a low(er) bf% to see where your development is at?? Just curious because I'm your height and look very different at 140 then at my current state of 150. When I'm leaner I can really see the areas I need to work on. September IS a long way off and yes it is possible to bulk while eating cleanly..you just have to eat MORE of that clean food! Eating good clean food is actually a great way to bulk because its better nutrition for your body. In June you can cut back on the cals/add cardio to aim for the 1lb a week loss that MS mentioned. Bmom and FC and many of the others can also help with carb up/carb down when its closer to your contest to help with water retention, muscle fullness, vascularity etc. Re your Mom - she is the past. You are the present. Refuse to discuss the issue with her any longer. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Skydancer- thanks so much for your help. I just don't know exactly what types of clean food I can eat besides chicken, tuna, salmon, and turkey. I seem very limited. I usually drink 2 protein shakes a day. Are you saying that I should get down to 140 to see what body parts I need to work on? That sounds reasonable enough to me. Maybe I will do that for the next two months and then maybe do a gaining stage (if needed) for 3 mths, and then cut down. Is that too weird? Thanks again for your help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Night Fly, Do not, I repeat DO NOT let your mother discourage you. It is extremely painful when a parent tries to tear you down. Even when we can wear a teflon sheild against anyone else, it all seems to melt away when it's our parent berating us for something. Remember that the ugliness she's directing at you is only a fraction of what she must be feeling toward herself. You cannot fix your mother's poor self-image, and you are not in any way responsible for it. You are the only one who can fix your own self-image, and you're busy working on that (and obviously succeeding). She probably sees this, and it just makes her feel worse about herself. Just keep your eye on your goals. Your mother may or may not come around, but remember who you're doing this for. I too have always felt that whatever it was I succeeded at, my mother would have preferred it be something else. I don't even mention bodybuilding to my mother. I don't know if you've seen my other posts, but I was anorexic in high school and have spent the last 20 years trying to recover. So for me in these last few years, bodybuilding has been my key out of hell. My mother is 72 years old and still obsessed with being a walking coat hanger. So, whenever the subject of weight, etc. is brought up, I never take the bait and change the subject. Night Fly, your mother might not be your biggest fan for bodybuilding, but you DO have us! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thank you so much Fitfossil. Those words of encouragement will help me a lot. You are right when you say that it doesn't matter who you can put your shield up against, your parents can always get through it. Thanks again and I will try to remember what you have said! Good luck with your BB, also! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well 140 is a weight I posted for me -not for you neccesarily...the scale doesn't reflect everything thats happening in your body. Have you had your body fat measured? This can be an important tool...For example I'm 150 now at aout 19%bf...a couple of years a go I was the same weight but at 27%bf...BIG difference in appearance. It is a good idea to lean down (meaning lower your body fat without losing muscle) to see where your development is at. Especially if you are planning on competing. Eating cleanly may limit your intake of McDonalds but it doesn't mean you can't eat good tasting food. I spend a few hours every weekend cooking up dishes that I can eat during the week - and I often tweak them a bit to up the protein/veggie content. Invest in some good cookbooks! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Night Fly - You go girl!!! ![]() Don't let anyone stand in your way if you want to better yourself. If you want to compete, then you should compete. You seem to know what you want and are willing to do what you need to improve yourself and go determined to win! I wish you all the luck. Are you competing in TN? Maybe I can come watch you. I compete in fitness but like to watch bodybuilding! ![]() ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
