could somebody give me a good cardio plan to loose bodyfat?
how many times a week, for how long and which hr (i'm 29).
my bf is 30% and way too high, i do weights 3 times a week and want to know what the most effective cardio would be. people always have a different view on the hr. i don't really want to take any fatburners though.
thanks for your help

What is your diet like now?? Diet is EVERYTHING As far as cardio is concerned everyone has their own opinion on how long, what time etc. You have to work with it and see what works for you individually. 3-4 days a week 30-45 minutes and mix up your routine. Your body adapts, so you need to change things up to keep it guessing!! Make your sessions intense and push yourself. Maybe do 15-20 minutes on the treadmill, and then another 15-20 minutes on the stepper. Use all the different equipment and change the programs around a bit. Make sure you are eating small frequent meals and plenty of water!! Hope that helps!

Its true, everyone has different ideas on what works best...definately try to do whatever cardio you choose first thing in the morning on an empty stomach...

And diet REALLY is everything...

Diet does NOT mean what you DON'T eat. Around here, diet means: what ARE you eating?

thanks. i eat about 4 small meals a day, i do watch my carbs (none in the late afternoon), low fat, fish (no salmon) not meat, 2 pieces of fruit (no banana), no sugar.
so i should push myself then (hr 165-170), but what about people saying that you burn more fat with a low hr and at least 45 min?

Barbara, I'm no diet expert, but though you are having more smaller meals throughout the day (GOOD THING), I dare say that you are not eating enough. Even when I am dieting the hardest (couple weeks out from a comp) I do not go below 1800 cal/day and I usually eat about 5 to 6 times per day.

Do you not eat salmon because you don't like the taste? I hope you are not avoiding it because you think it has too much fat. When you decrease your carb intake, you increase (maintain) your protein intake and increase fat intake....not all fats are created equally though. I don't have the science behind this quite nailed down yet, so I will defer this to the experts - however think about it this way.

I weigh 130#

If I am taking in 2G or Protein p/# of bodyweight (130 x 2 = 260G of protein)

I am taking in 100 - 120G of carbs p/day

One Gram of Protein and One Gram of Carbohydrates yield 4 calories so let's add the grams of pro and carb, shall we? We get 260 + 120 = 380G x 4 calories =

1,520 Calories. Where do you suppose the rest of your calories will come from? Yes, FAT!.....but like I said, not all fats are created equally.

One gram of Fat yields 9 calories so if you wanted to shoot for a total daily caloric intake of no more than 2,000 calories but no less than 1,800 you would have to take in no less than 280 calories and no more than 480 calories from FAT. 280 divided by 9 = 31.1g of fat and 480 divided by 9 = 53.3g of fat.

I hope this isn't too confusing.

Perhaps it is because like I said I am no diet expert myself. I know what works for me and how to figure this stuff out for myself, but I do not have the knowledge to do this for somebody else. These numbers are based on MY height, weight and activity level - they may not be correct for you.

Experts if I am incorrect, PLEASE HELP ME OUT HEE.

Nutrition GURUS, what do you guys say?

i'm pretty sure i eat under 1,800 calories a day.
i like salmon but i thought it's too fat.
i do want to loose about 10 pounds as well.
any opinion on potatoes? when i stopped eating sugar they were saying that potatoes will do the same to your blood sugar level as sugar.
then again on for eg weight watchers you can eat tons of potatoes.
do i sound confused? yes, i am.
i guess i will try to do the cardio on an empty stomach 4 times a day for 30-40 minutes (didn't try that one yet) and stay with weights 3 times a day.
any idea about the heartrate issue during cardio? low and longer or high and shorter?
thanks for your patience

Hi Barbara

First of all, as BMom said, a moderate amout of good fats like that found in salmon is GOOD for you, is necesssary and will actually help you with your weight losss efforts. Her second point about eating more is also good info. It's not just a matter of reducing your calories to lose weight, it should also be about keeping your metabolism high enough to retain muscle and continue losing fat. 1800 is just what works for BMom, and everyone is different. It depends on your metabolism, lean body mass and activity level.

If I were you I would do a mixture of cardio. Sprint work one day, longer lower intensity the next time. Mix it up both for your mental health as well as to keep your body from adapting to the same ol' same ol'.

Spuds vary a lot in their effect on insulin. Depends on the variety, how old they are and how they've been prepared. Many of them have a high GI, but this does not make them evil. First, if you eat them with a meal that is high in protein and has some fat in it, it lessens their effective GI. Secondly, potatoes are one of the most filling carbs you can eat. In other words, 100 calories worth of spuds is more satisfying than 100 calories of rice, pasta, bread etc.....so they're still good for dieting.

Now for my lecture. Are you sure you wouldn't rather gain 10 lbs of muscle while losing 10 lbs of fat? Could you live without you set of scales, and go by how you look, feel, how your clothes fit and how much stronger you're getting? You said you wanted to lose 10 more pounds. To me this sounds like someone who is focused on the scales (ala Weight Watchers) rather than results. That's fine if that's what you really want, but we just want you to know there is more than one way to look and feel good.

Barbara listen to all these people!
They know what they are talking about!
I suggest get rid of you scales.
I use to be a person who lived by the scales.
It would effect my moods.. Crazy lol
Yes they will make you crazy.
Just go by how your clothes fit and how you feel that's the most important!~
