Are these where you lift at a certain weight until you fail, then reduce the weight and go again to failure then repeat? What are the purpose of these? I have been lifting a 12,10,8,6 increasing weight with each set, when I get to the 6 if I can do more should I drop set or increase the weight again and go for 3 or four reps? The problem that I have is that I don't always have someone to spot for me and am a little leary of dropping something heavy on myself. | ||

Drop sets, or strip sets are done for one purpose.....to crush the muscle group being worked. For legs, I'll squat on the smith machine. I'll put on 3 45lb. Iron pies on each side, and several 10lb. pies as well....I'll do 4 to 6 reps, drop a 10 pounder, 4 to 6 reps, drop another...no rest, and I go to complete failure..... This is good for bench as well, but ensure you have good people to spot.... You do not need to do this but once, or twice a month at the most....Generally, I will lose my cookies doing this for legs, and yes you will feel very sick to your stomach...the reason being, when you push your legs very hard, it pulls a vast amount of blood from the upper body to meet the demand the legs are screaming for.... Now, to avoid this....once you complete the strip sets, and are able to walk...heh heh heh....go straight to the lat pull, or cable crossover and use a fairly light weight and do slow easy reps to pull some blood back to the upper body....this works sometimes...sometimes it doesn't....I personally love the delicious pain they bring...But, I am right much of a pain freak.....Enjoy...!!!
