Friend of mine is getting ready to do (and win) an NPC show in may...Starting jan. 15th we're dieting and training and cycling together... We're going to do a little competition and compare our results after the show... We're going to keep the constants the same , the workout schedule, the diet, the cycle and we're going to do baseline BF and size measurements...we're both 5'4" she's 150ish i'm 170ish... going to do bf this sunday.. she's much leaner than I. Way more lean muscle than me... for now... i think it'll be interesting to chase the % change between us in terms of a very fit individual and a sort of fit individual following the same programs... In terms of pushing weights around we're pretty close...i can't do unassisted wide grips so i know that's a weak point for me but I can bicep curl her under the table..those are other baselines we'll be chasing... I'll be keeping a log for both of us and keep you all updated weekly

Cool! What a terrific opportunity. I have trouble with wide grip chins too. Been working on those for a while.

Let us know how it goes for you!

you're a girl who loves the challenge -- for sure! What does this all mean for the marathon thang?

I can usually get about 6-7 wide grip pullups unassisted. I like to put a chair under my feet so I can spot myself by jumping up after failure. This has been helpful to my strength. Maybe as your bodyweight comes down and your strength goes up you will hammer em out no problem.

Hope you two have a lot of fun!

Have you tried neutral grips? I can knock out double the amount of those than I can with wide. Lat shrugs are good too

Have I mentioned lately how much i love this board!?!?!

Sky- widegrips are the bane of my existence we have one of those gravitrons which use the counterbalance so you can lift increasing %s of your weight that I've used in the past but it just seems like I can't get past a certain point... I'm fortunate that I now have a workout partner who is this huge guy so I might just start doing them with him spotting me without the machine and just force my muscles to step up and pay attention a little less gently.

Riptchick- Thanks I'm going to give it a try...I may not kick her butt but I'll definitely make her feel really guilty for cheating (lol)If there's one thing that I am it's competitive!

jayelynn- for the marathon thang , well, I'm going to keep at it...My neck and shins are really buggin me from the pounding so i may just have to aim for one in september instead...which means I'll keep running I just won't increase on the pace I have been (got a new pair of sneaks but they didn't cut it..I'm going to a running shop to get another pair from the pros) Here's my present workout schedule
1. Chest and biceps (run in am)
2. abs (run in am)
3. back and triceps (run in am)
4. abs (rest)
5. legs (quads and hams)
6. (rest)
7. shoulders (run in am)
8. calves, forearms (run in am)
9. abs (run in am)
I know I risk not making huge gains because of the amount of running and when the cycle starts I'll cut down more...
I really am going to answer that e-mail by the way!

juicygirl- good advice about the chair..I've got a bar at home that I can use that technique with...are you the juicy by the way with info on hgh?

sassys- neutral grips are my best friend! I feel so rugged when I knock those out!!! but they're not hitting what I need... lat shrugs are definitely good..I was a competetive swimmer so I have a lot of mass but it's not the same kind of strength that I need to get teh definition I want...

the nutrition piece is going to be a huge key I've been eating like crap for teh last three months completely off any semblance of a really healthy solid diet... just let life and work take over rather than me controlling it if you know what I mean... Made a commitment to myself that that is all over now and January 15 is the day we seriously kick off.... I'm weaning myself into the idea now...

anybody else want to take part in this we'll make it a little cyber competition too...

ooooh, I'd love to take you up on that challenge, but my next cycle doesn't hit until mid-February. I'd certainly give you a run for your money!

well, lets look at this.
Unlike my last cycle, I'm back into hockey as of this weekend and we're not talking inline this time. I'm going ice, so the intensity is going up. That would sorta compare to your running.
What is your primary agenda? I'll tell ya now, mine is strictly bulking again so you can expect me to adding at least another 10-15#. My intended cycle is straight sust for 10-12 weeks. We'd have to use the same tools to measure progress.

Hi Kaizen

You go girl. BUT be careful. If you're not cycling anything anabolic you really should consider replacing the running with vigororous walking, cycling or other lower intensity activities (including, heaven forbid, reduced calories). I know you've heard this before, but running is TRULY one of the most catabolic activities you can do. I've also said this before on this board, but putting on muscle mass is trivial compared to dieting to RETAIN muscle mass. There are soooooo many folks that have great muscle development, but over-diet and look washed out and puny on the day. Good luck to you. You sound like a powerhouse of size and strength, and I hope you don't lose too much in your 'competition'.

jayelynn-- squuuaaawwwwk squuawwwwwkkk! # ## ### (kaizen scratching dirt) LOL!!

Not chicken well okay... a little... sust hunh? I still think we're sticking winny primo t3.... my buddy doesn't want to get too much mass on she's already feeling a little too big...I'll talk with her though...

MS--
I was doing all the running because I was planning on doing the Boston marathon this april but due to this infernal neck injury it's not looking good the pounding of running is really tweaking it...so I may be a recumbent bike girl for a while....I hate giving up on anything but my physical therapist is getting a little annoyed with me too....though she's quite thrilled with me lifting! thanks for the compliments and support...! I'm hoping at the end of this thing to post some pics that'll do me proud... We're planning our diet out now and will be starting on the nutritional aspects this coming week..we cook together on saturday and pack everything in tupperware for the week to keep us on track...

hahaha - well, you started it by challenging me to join in on the competition .... and then proceded to back out!
Nonetheless you're right, she's already pretty solid.

Well you can still join in...but you'd have to cycle with us to make it fair!!! Course it wouldn't help you much to be cutting down when your trying to ride some woman up the boards on your hip.... Then again you could just join in anyway and we'll see how fast your gains are compared to ours from baseline...how's that sound you stick with your cycle we stick with ours and see where we all end up.... I'm liking this idea!!
