I have an Amazon gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. Can anyone recommend a good bodybuilding book to add to my library?

Last year I bought Bodyshaping for Women by MuscleMag, and it was really a great book. Great info and great pictures. The "bodyshaping" title is misleading (I guess they're trying to appeal to the masses) because all the models were well-muscled fitness competitors or bodybuilders. I'd highly recommend it for beginner/intermediate women.

I also have Serious Strength Training by Bompa and Cornacchia. Lots of good information here too. (more for intermediate and higher)

These are some others I've read:
Arnold's Encyclopedia
Getting Stronger by Bill Pearl
A Woman's Book of Strength
Women of Steel
Sculpting Her Body Perfect
Six Week Fat to Muscle Makeover
Etc.

Thanks!

I think the greatest book I ever bought being natural was Lyle McDonald's Ketogenic Diet book. If you can handle low carbs, its a great way of gettin shredded without the loss of any muscle..very good read

Get the "Stretch Book" by Bill
Wharton.

Excellant book on stretching which if incorparated into your training regimen greatly increase your bodies recovery speed and helps with injury prevention.

This aspect of training is the most neglected and in my opinion very important.

A pretty good book you might like is Muscle: Confessions of an Unlikely Bodybuilder by Samuel Wilson Fussell. Check out the reader reviews on amazon for better descriptions - I can't do it justice.

I also like Laura Crevalle's cookbook.

I highly suggest the BodyOpus book by Dan Duchaine. Even if you are not interested in a keto diet, there is tons of other info to benefit on. I love this book. Definately one of, if not, my most favorite book.

Senior_gato,

I've read that book Muscle: Confessions of an Unlikely Bodybuilder by Samuel Wilson Fussell, and it was great! I just couldn't remember the title yesterday. I'm living up to the fossil part of my handle!

There should be no doubt in a bodybuilder's mind of the importance of optimal nutrition. This is why I recommend reading Michael Colgan's books. Sorry, no pretty pictures in these books!

Some body 'maintenance' books that I recommend every bodybuilder read include

Hormonal Health : Nutritional and Hormonal Strategies for Emotional Well-Being & Intellectual Longevity
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0969527276/qid%3D980967031/104-0367928-3827970

And just about any of Michael Colgan's other books, such as:

Antioxidants, the Real Story

The New Power Program: Protocols for Maximum Strength

Beat Arthritis

Creatine for Muscle and Strength

The New Nutrition : Medicine for the Millennium

Optimum Sports Nutrition : Your Competitive Edge

Prevent Cancer Now : Arm Yourself With Powerful Weapons Against Cancer

The Right Protein for Muscle & Strength

His lay-style of writing is often sensationalist, and sometimes speculative, and occassionally wrong, but you will learn a lot from reading his books.
