IG said it was ok, so I hope no one laughs, cause I know its pretty pathetic to all of you, but it's pretty good for me. Last year at this time I was the exact same weight (I'm 4'11" and 100 lbs), but had ZERO muscle. I mean ZERO, I'm not joking..atrophy would be better described. I started running in April because I was getting too tired on stage...passing out from exhaustion and such. However, I had always admired the look of Henry Rollins, and so stopped running and started lifting in June. I had no help, noone to ask, I just read stuff and went into it. Unfortunately, the only measurement I took before lifting was my arms, and I've gained an inch. I'm told my legs and back have shown improvement as well. Ok, so to make a long story shorter, there is a walkway that winds around the house, downstairs to my apartment, and it is my responsibility to clean it in the winter. Last year, I would have to stop 2 or 3 times during snow removal just on the walkway to rest. It would take me forever. Forget the driveway..I would have died. Yesterday I went to shovel the 8inches of heavy wet crap that fell the night before, and I was dreading it, thinking of the previous year. when the guys came over later and saw what I had done and seeing I was still bright eyed and bushytailed they said "dude, you doing speed or something?" Just me and my measly muscles. ------------------

Kat, Good Job...BTW do you smoke cigarettes? If you do that could also have been a big factor in you losing your breath?

I think thats fantastic. One of my favorite parts of lifting this past year is seeing the increase in my strength and stamina this past year. I'm always surprising myself (and hubby) with what I can do with ease now. Although buying clothes is getting interesting...I'm no where near huge but boy do these muscles make a difference!!

Kat-I have experienced this feeling of finally being able to do something physical that you never dreamed of being able to accomplish. When I was younger I couldn't run 100 feet without being out of breath. Lets just say I was very out of shape. Now I try to run three times a week (although I have been slacking this winter). I have even entered a few 5k races, the first 10k is next summer. My mom is amazed and my co-workers think I am crazy. When you stop and think about how far you have come it is amazing. Keep up the good work!! Skydancer-Have you ever had trouble fitting your quads into jeans? Every time you have to sit down or walk up stairs you can feel the threads slowly tearing, thats the worst. It is the best excuse for a new wardrobe though.

Yes, I smoke IG,have since I was 11 and it has an undeniable effect, but since I started working out the effects have lessened and Ive cut down a little. Thanks for your kind words everyone..I'll post my workout and diet later when i have more time to be long-winded.

Skydancer.. Ive been having these strange clothes buying experiences as well. Im a size 5 in jeans.. now that I have the hips of a 12 year old boy, but my upper body is a size med. or large depending on the shirt. The tiny little capped sleeve shirts dont fit around my biceps anymore (unless I cut them under the armpit a little). Its kinda like that saying "be careful what you wish for". Or in my case, be careful what you work your ass off 6 days a week for 2 years for.. or duh, Sassy, you might just get bigger muscles. Anyway, Ive been informed by my boyfriend that I no longer look "normal". I supose I dont, but dats alright, Ive always been an obvious weirdo, now Im only more so

No idea...I didn't even know what the term was when I started...doesnt matter to me either...when i'm happy with what i see in the mirror, then I know Im there. Only reason why I know how much I weigh is because I got my physical. I don't even own a scale!

The reason i was asking is because it seems that you gained a good amount of muscle in that time. That is what most likely helped you to move through that snow at such a fast pace. ------------------

Really? Cool. Like I said, the only things I know are my weight hasnt changed at all, and I've gained a whole inch on my arms..oh yeah, and even though my weight is the same my pants keep falling off now.

Sweet Pea - upper body is where I'm starting to have an interesting time...shoulders and across the back are getting wider... I've always had trouble with the lower body..tiny waist and thighs from hell (with fat) actually since I've lowered my bf and gained muscle the pants are getting easier to buy...I'm sure when my quads start growing more that will go away

Ladies (Sweet Pea, SkyDancer)...I feel ya! I have the SAME problems. When I shop, I don't go with the 'girlfriends'...I just can't do it to them. I have to try on EVERYTHING and it NEVER fits. Tops are always a medium or large, in the teeny stores they are a large I guess they make girls smaller now with begger boobs! But the pants...forget about it! Even most jeans. Tight over the quads, too tight on the ASS and too big in the waist. My butt is just a big bubble and my waist is small (27). I won't tell you the butt we will just say the 'average' 36-24-36...NO WAY. More like 36-(all back, not boobs -27 or so-and more like 38 at least on the booty! Yikes! So, I get the same problem when I try pants on. I am typically a size 7 which is still beg on the waist but has to be to get over the butt, and I have this 'pooch' stick out in the back of the pants and it doesn't meet the waist line. What can I do, except shop obsessively for pants. Usually takes hours and if I am lucky I find 1 pair. Fox P.S. Pics soon to come...maybe?... ) |
