Tell me what you think of Glycerol. As most of you are aware, I have a major problem with sweets and sugar. I should say the cravings are so severe, at times I wake in the middle of the night to this overwhelming urge. I already have tried everything and I mean everything to curb this craving. Nothing works. I was told instead of reaching for the cupcake when I am feeling this urge, take a tablespoon of glycerol. It is very sweet and many have begun using it as a sugar supplement. I am at my wits end. I will begin this tomorrow morning. I do realize it is suppose to pull water into the muscles but do you think it can actually replace my cravings?

I've used glycerol for cutting and it does make you appear more vascular and lean. I really didn't like the taste myself though. Didn't taste really sweet to me and I really didn't care for the taste. Made me kinda nauseous. I couldn't compare it to cupcakes at all. Why don't you have some sugar-free products if you are craving sweets. I think you may be disappointed in the glycerol substitute though..

You may be craving sweets because your blood sugar levels are low. Some women crave sweets more than others, may have something to do with leptin, other peptide hormones or neurochemistry (serotonin). Metformin might help; perhaps an SSRI such as (Prozac). If the problem is physiologic, I doubt if glycerol will help. F1

Are you dieting? One thing is to try to eat fibrous carbs in the late afternoon and some at dinner. My g/f was eating 3 cups of veggies at night. This may curb the hunger cravings in the middle of the night. Why not buy some sugar free popsicles (5g carbs) or fudgesicles (9g carbs) and also the ever popular sugar free jello?

I'm one of those girls who craves a lot of sweets too. Sugar free sweet snacks can sometimes make the cravings worse because the sweet taste elicits an insulin release and it drives all the sugar already in your blood out of it, making you have an even lower blood suger level, and causing a worse craving. The best solution for me is a piece of hard candy, or even better - a sucker. Suckers disolve over a longer time in your mouth, and give you a bit of the sugar you want. Just make sure you don't eat too many. That could be tragic.

You're just adding fuel to the fire by ingesting simple sugar to kill your sugar craving. It will jump you insulin levels and you'll be in worse shape in an hour or so than you were before. Try low glycemic index foods and add in a little fat to slow digestion. This will keep blood sugar and insulin more stable and should help regulated your cravings. If that doesn't work, talk to your doc about some SSRIs, but better use some Test with them because they'll kill your libido. F1

I'm no scientist but as a female who is in possession of ONE HELLUVA SWEET TOOTH I can tell you the F1's suggestion of a little fat.....goes a looooooooooooooooooong way! A spoonful of olive oil (haven't gotten around to buying me some of that there flax stuff yet) will kill your cravings for ANYTHING! YUUUUUUUUUUUCK! But it does slow digestion so you don't feel like your starving by your next meal when dieting REALLY heavily before a show and GOD, does it taste AWFULL! And I also second F1's info (not that we doubt ANYTHING he says ) about the sugarfree stuff. The more I ate, the more I WANTED TO EAT....and you guys already know how this screwed me up for my last contest. ------------------

Hey, sorry about the bad advice in my message above. Complex carbs should never be replaced by simple sugars. But, if all else fails for me, I like a sucker now and then. I think I'm going to try b-moms advice about the spoon full of oil next time. Sorry again. AYN |
