Hey all,

anybody else get to that place where you get into the gym and you know what you're supposed to be doing but you just wander around aimlessly? I'm there and I'm not "carb-stupid"... I'm starting today to train for the Boston marathon...I'm hoping that just changing my workout focus will help get me back on track... I won't be making any muscle gains for the next 4 months but I'll be getting lean that's for sure!! Anybody have any good motivators for these "not so up" times ?

Beats me. When I feel like that I need to take a break from the gym and do other things. Then when I come back I change my program around a lot. I stay motivated most of the time either by the self-imposed deadline of competing in a show, or by a desire to be the strongest woman in the gym (second strongest actually....there's 1 pro female BB that trains in our gym but she's in a different league!). None of this is much help to you. Marathon training is in a different league again.

Marathon?!?!?!?

I was watching the New York marathon awhile back..and Good Lord. Those people look like shit.

I mean women who were in the top 100 coming across the finish lines with their cheese riddled asses.

It should of made a documentary "Morning of the Running dead"

You should really try doing a BB of fitness show ALOT more rewarding and more intune with your lifestyle.Plus you'll look and feel a whole lot better.

HeHe IronGod, you really ARE starting to sound like a religious fanatic. Believe it or not, there's plenty of room in this world for people to pursue other physical goals besides BodyBuilding. The marathon is the most respected and time-honored sporting event we have. And a lot of women who are or have been overweight would kill to look like a marathon runner.

By the way, without the fake tan, etc.... most BB competitors look like shit on competition day. Gaunt, drawn faces, dry dry dry and nasty looking skin on most of the pros. And I think they look even worse after a show when they get that bloated, Dbol moonface and distended gut. Yeah really healthy lifestyle. I looked and felt much better before I took up bodybuilding. I could backpack long distances for days or weeks without tiring, I could scale rocky cliffs with the lightness and grace, and flexibility of a rock-climber, I could run like the wind, I could eat what I wanted and never put on any fat, never gave a second thought to diet. Now I'm too heavy and don't have the stamina for most of those types of activites, and I am trying hard NOT to think about food as just a special fuel for gaining muscle. I think if I had it to do over again I would have taken up marathons!

Good luck Kaizen in getting and staying motivated for the next 4 months.

Hell yeah. I would love to have back my lean, mean rock-climber physique. I'm working on it but it takes time to re-educate myself.

LOL!!

Believe me IG I would never end up in the top 100 women! those girls can be folded up and put in your pocket, carry them the 26.2 and finish!! BBing at this point isn't an option for me because of the nerve damage from my rugby injury...I can't lift enough right side to put on mass... jayelynn and I just e-mailed about this and it may be the shift in training focus that's kicking my butt...

though I must say IG you make a compelling argument..."cheese riddled asses" lol.... makes me want to go running to the gym right now and do that psychotic leg workout... The marathon is a challenge that I can actually take on right now that will feed my competitive spirit while I heal ... it is also a challenge to my concept of what sport is...I love hiking as well MS and it always has a purpose from palce to place beautiful thing to beautiful thing... this is a whole new way of breaking through the wall for me...when I hit Heartbreak Hill at mile 20(and all I want to do is stop and get carried home) it will be a test of my strength of will and mind like no other.. besides I never thought running for the sake of running was really fun...I probably still won't but I will be able to say I've finished a marathon!!! I guess it's that combination that's distracting me...I can't lift heavy and I have to run and I need to lift but how to put that all together... and change the lifting focus....I can't be bulky and thick both because I'm running and because I'm physically limited but how then do I lift? any insights?

Hey Jayelynn-

Time rest no rugby Was doing PT with traction but no longer the neurologist didn't think it would help ...Checking into another neuro though because he started off with "well i could operate"...and also managed to make sure I knew he thought rugby was a horrible sport... saying that to me is like telling IG BBing is silly.... I have a disk protrusion at c-6 that pinched off the nerve for about 6 weeks..got misdiagnosed a whole lot and when I finally got them to give me the MRI because I kept ranting that it wasn't just a muscle spasm they got the films and they kind of sucked up ... sooooo... I've hung back for a bit to see how it would go but I really need to get into a new neuro and get traction again...part of doing my planned cycle was to see if it will help any but at this point with my new goal to run the marathon it would be a waste....

now you've gone and hit one of my triggers!
TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH. I know it's hard, but find someone competant!
#2 I don't know that a cycle should necessarily be out of the picture for you. One of the best attributes of a cycle is muscle sparing. I'm sure the boys could say a few things about that. ..not that I think that a person cannot survive without AS, but since you are crossing that barrier anyway..

I promise to get on the ball...call a new neuro tomorrow...

okay off to the gym for my 7 mile tempo run i.e. I run every other mile at within 10 seconds +/- of my projected marathon pace... aiming for 7 minute miles...
