I just had my first child 10 weeks ago, and in the process I gained 47 pounds! I've lost all the weight, but now I am dealing with this extra skin that looks like fat and my lower abs are only flat when I lay down! I had to have a c-section because my son weighed 11.2 pounds, and I was wondering if any of you women out there could offer any advice. BikiniMom especially, after 4 kids you really look amazing! Any help would be appreciated!

JayJay, Give it some time! You just had a baby 10 wks ago! It took 9 mts for you to gain that weight, give yourself 9mts to get your figure back..Your stomach will shrink slowly! Your uterus is not evev back to its original size yet I would not worry too much at this point b/c its soo soon. It takes time..concentrate on diet and start slow with the weights! Good Luck!

*sigh* If there's nothing else that motherhood will teach you, it's patience. If this one is your first, than I suspect that you're still young and your ability to recoup is enviably high. It actually takes skin a while to shrink, so cut yourself some slack. I'd recommend treating your abs just like every other body part so that when it all starts to come together, it will come out well balanced. Motherhood is not nearly debilitating as becoming an armchair quarterback! ------------------

If this is your first child (congrats, by the way!) then you really shouldn't have too much difficulty getting your abs back.....but for God's sake woman, give yourself some time! Shit, 10 weeks after I had my babies I still looked about 4/5 months pregnant. Did you get stretchmarks or is it just loose skin? If you got little or no stretchmarks your skin is pretty elastic and should "snap back" (by this I do not mean fast, I just mean that it won't be hanging FOREVER....even though it may seem like it). I've known women who have had up to two children w/o having permanent damage being done to their abs, either skin quality or much separation of the abdominal wall. I've not done a study or anything, but in my conversations w/women it seems that the third baby is what "destroys" ya....but chin up, there is almost nothing that a little perspiration and a good cosmetic surgeon can not fix . (In case you didn't know I did have an abdominoplasty - shaved a foot of loose skin off and put permanent sutures in my abdominal wall - after I had my fourth....but NO LIPO - I grew the sixpack and cut the fat on my own.) CHILL WOMAN.....you have the rest of your life! ------------------

shit Bmom, I never knew you had abdominoplasty....I had read up on it, being as I've had 3 kids and have the scars to prove it and I read that they do do some liposuction when they do the abdominoplasty.....too damn expensive for me though...if I had a way to get it done, I would seriously consider it.....I'm also surprised you never brought this fact up when that liposuction came up awhile back... Don't get me wrong, BMom, I know you had to build up the 6 pack and work hard to get your bod looking the way it is......it makes me feel good, somewhat, knowing your stomach wasn't pretty before either....but, I hate you now knowing you got abdominoplasty done

I was lucky and I didn't get any stretch marks, so it is mostly skin. I've been sweating away and eating pretty clean, so I guess I'll put away the bikini for now...<sob> . I did some squats last week: 3X135, and I went to parallel. My strength is creeping back and I'm really psyched about that! You know how it is after a baby, you want things to return to normal as soon as you leave the hospital, well at least your body. Life changes a little (he he), like having to do a freakin step video for cardio b/c your son is too damn cranky to leave and you know the chick in childcare would come get your ass anyway! How bad did that surgery hurt BM? After 4 kids, i think I'd need a damn overhaul!

Congrats on your new little one!!! I have a little one of my own, she is now 3 and it takes time! I have no patience either. Just keep eating healthy and slowly get back into working out. Your body will readjust and go back all in good time

Hey Lisa - go back and check that thread again....there was quite a bit of additional controversy stirred up because I DID SPECIFICALLY bring up my own experience w/cosmetic surgery! I was literally hung out to dry by a few board members who screached that I was some sort of hypocrite because they missed the numerous other occasions when I had mentioned the abdominoplasty and the mastopexy/augmentation I had done......I believe one quote, from a man was "to think I once showed your picture to someone touting your gains as natural". When I asked this same moron how many crunches I should do to make an entire foot of loose skin disappear he amazingly fell silent. I don't think that George would allow me to take out a banner ad stating what I personally had done. This site gets a lot of traffic and has many members. I know that I do not get a chance to read each and every post on each and every thread so a lot of information is missed. Many board members have asked on the board and privately through email and I have done my best to furnish EVERYONE w/the most accurate information I could. I have NEVER intentionally misled anyone. ANd yes, the surgery was expensive (about the price of a vacation), but the way I looked there is no way that I, personally, (this is not my opinion of others) would don a bathing suit or any other form fitting garment, even though I was a size 0 (hence, even though lipo is commonly a part of this procedure it was NOT done in my particular case...I was about 104# when I had the surgery) I had so much loose skin hanging that there is no place that I could have "put" it. So, because I had gone without so many things and deprived myself of so much for so long and I worked so hard to try to get my figure back....my hubby acquiesed. As a matter of fact of all the procedures that my doc had performed she presented mine as a case study to a conference of her peers because the results were SO DRAMATIC. This was due to the FACT that I had such low bodyfat to begin with and because I had done "bazillions" of crunches, etc to try to get a flat hard stomach....nevermind sixpack - so the underlying muscles though separated was hard and strong. So when she removed the excess skin - A FOOT - and sutured up my abs: VIOLA - the hard flat stomach I had worked so hard for and always dreamed of......the six pack didn't come until I had grown the underlying muscle. If you ever want to know anything my email is public. Even though it may take me a bit to answer, I try to respond to everyone. ------------------

Of course A MAN, who would never get pregnant if he had the option, would bitch about your surgery. i've had breast augmentation and I got a lot of hell, but I feel much more confident and would do it again tomorrow. I lost what little boobs I had when I did a cycle of primo in 97. I hated how they looked, and I went up to a "full" c. It hurt too! I never went into labor because he was so big, I had a scheduled c-section. I would have the same exact surgery you had if I couldn't get rid of the skin- nature can only do so much. And a size 0? I remember that when I was 11! I think that if ou bust your ass as hard as you do, who cares if you had surgery! You have to bust your ass for you abs, and I admire them just the same knowing about your surgery. (I hope I didn't dig up some old drama!) Thanks for all your imput.

jayjay, I cannot speak form experience because I have not yet experienced the joys of motherhood, however, I can tell you as Bmom said, give it time---10 weeks is a minimal amount of time to give your body time to bounce back from 9 months of growing....and any advice Bmom gives you follow---I have trained with her & you would never know she has 4 kids by looking at her-- By the way, her kids are all gorgeous-I have had the pleasure of meeting them all & they are great----she does have her handsful with 4 though----sorry, I was ranting off topic...anyway, enough said.....

I also work at a women's only gym, and most of the members tell me to shut my trap because it usually take 6-9 months just to lose the weight! My belly was HUGE and I am shocked I don't have more skin than I do! I was just curious to see if there is a general time frame to follow- but since evry body is different, I'll just keep plugging along. It's tough becuase the scar tissue around my incision is breaking up and some days it really hurts , so I have been doing 4 sets of 15-20 lower ab exercises and I sure as shit feel them burning! If you haven't had a child yet, being in good shape before really makes a huge difference. Muscle memory is a wonderful thing.

Hey FC.....no matter how flattering your comments are, come April,I'm still gonna mop the stage w/your rock hard amazingly perfect ass ......Oh FUCK, I just woke up. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?! Give it time girl, I'm willing to wager you'll have that flat rock hard sixpack before you know it. And yes, I understand "wanting it yesterday". I really killed myself to get back my old waist line after my first baby because I felt like everybody around me was thinking, "We knew she would get fat after her first baby!" I was back down to my old skinny yucky size 4 about 4/5 months later. Seeing as how you are not into starving yourself into oblivion and working out on fumes.....I'm willing to wager you'll make it there sooner and look a whole helluva lot better than I did. And if it takes you longer - SO WHAT?!.....you'll still look and feel better - squatting 135#, shit I just got up there m'self and from what IG and FC say....my form needs help and A LOT OF IT! Lisa....I got nothin' but love for ya' ! ------------------ |
