Just got back from the NPC Nationals and my goodness, what an experience. It was like a "Who's Who of Body Building and Fitness". There were MANY past, present and up and coming "greats" present. I had THE EXTREME HONOR and PRIVILIGE to get to know the new Ms Olympia 2000 - Valentina - a bit (we were at the same booth) and OH!....do I have some very inspirational stories to share w/the board members! All of the pros that I had the pleasure to meet were genuinely kind and considerate, I had the opportunity to get a few pics. As soon as I get them developed and scanned, I will post along w/the personal info. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to see much of the show as I was working.....but from what I did see, the NPC is following the "new direction" begun at the Olympia. Also the NPC will be adding a new competitive division - Ms Physique. It is my understanding that it will be similar to the "Ms Figure" compeitions already in place in other "natural" organizations (NABBA has the most "together" judging criteria in this typ of women's physique competition....not my opnion as I have NO credentials to make such a statement - just passing along the info given me from the horses mouth) - similar to fitness, will consist of 2 rounds one piece and two piece swimsuit NO ROUTINE. For those women who have dynamite physiques but do not desire (for whatever reason) the extreme size and hardness necessary to be a competitive bodybuilder and do not have the necessary gymnastics background to be a fitness competitor - this seems a very viable alternative. I do not know EXACTLY when this will happen in the NPC on the east coast - but if I remember this correctly (I didn't take notes) - in CA this is already set to take place in early 2001. It seems that the "new ideal for the feminine physique" in both bbing and fitness has been set. It would seem to me that the promoters have finally realized that there is a demand for a the new competitive women's division. Perhaps it's pretty much a beauty contest w/a bit of muscle....we'll see. But I believe it is WAAAAAYY better than the average skinny, skinny, starving, skinny ideal the country has now. How better than this to raise the public's awareness that strength and muscle is much more desirable for a feminine ideal of beauty than the current anorexic bullshit?! Perhaps it can be used as a stepping stone for those women who are not quite at the level of muscular development that is necessary to be competitive as a body builder and WILL NEVER be able to do back handsprings while at 10% bf, not a hair out of place in 6" acrylic posing heels (just funnin' w/ya folks......I realize the heels are only 6" ). They can learn stage presence, posing (even though the posing is different), tanning products, bikinibite, etc....without going through sucking ALL the fat and water out of your body only to come in last place because you really didn't understand what you were getting into at the onset..........as is the case often times, at a person's first competition. And the men........AHHHHHHHHH....gorgeous, as always. Remember, a thing of beauty is a joy forever......AH BLISS. ------------------

Hi Bikini Mom, I too attended the NPC Nationals. It was a great show unfortunately some of my friends didn't fair so well in the fitness classes. My friend Amy managed to crack the top 5 in the tall class. A few of the guys cracked the top 10 in their respective classes. The new "Figure" class will be added at the start of the 2001 season. I heard this from the New York district chairman and his wife. I'm tall and I had to learn gymnastics to keep up with the gymnasts that I compete with. I'll never be a petite 5'2 girl. It's harder to do those moves with you have long limbs. I love performing my routine but next year I'll compete in both fitness & figure. My first show next year(I should take more of a break)will be the New York Metropolitan. You never know we might just see each other. P.S. Will you be attending the Arnold Classic/Expo? Take care.

I do have plans to attend the classic as beautifitgym.com will have a booth there again....I'm gonna have to find a way to get myself there though. Ya think if I started walking in Jan that I would make it in time? Yes, Sista EM - I have no doubt that I we will run into each other sooner or later . ------------------

Thanks Bikinimom! I was getting ready to post a topic asking you about your weekend. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it's good to hear about the upcoming(s) in bb & fitness. Just curious, do your kids go w/ you at these shows? I wondered how they were entertained, although I know you said you had to work. Thanks again! I'll look for you to post some pics! ------------------

Hi Bikini Mom, My show on November 18th is in Connecticut. IFBB Pro Fitness athlete Amy Yanagasawa & BB Sean Allen will be guest posing. I'm not doing the Gold's show in NJ, it's the same weekend. I just saw my picture (it's a small one) In Natural BB & Fitness. I can't believe my shoulders look that big This is from a spring show. I was so excited to see it and the nice things they said. I hope to win my show this weekend, if not I know when I step onstage I'm the best that I can be. Wish me luck

The NY NPC 2000 results are posted with pics at: http://ironmanmagazine.com/ Click on contest coverage at the top. I personally do not think the judging in the men's category was fair. Too many politics!!!!! [This message has been edited by JuicyGirl (edited November 19, 2000).]
