Grip work, Farmer walk. Basically hold on to a very heavy barbell untill you grip fails, about 30-60 seconds. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would think the rotator-cuff in the shoulder would be the main muscle working... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

i agree with recoome. i think overall arm strength will play a role, but why not do a specialized lift that simulates the arm wrestling movement? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Besides one of those arcade machines, how could you simulate the wreastling movement with barbells? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

ok... the guys with the rotator cuff theory are on the right lines i reckon. How about a move similair to an L flye, but done off the floor with bigger weight to simulate the motion of arm wrestling? I dunno..i guess the best idea would be to get strong all over, then focus on grip, arm and shoulder cuff strength. Cheers, G. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

those other muscles named are secondary, the main are wrist and forearms. remember that when you arm wrestle your elbow is the fulcrum and does not leave the table ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The ket to arm wrestling is tendon strength and leverage...Hammer curls, reverse curls, and grip work all will help you out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The internal rotor cuff. Everything else like delts etc. only provide stability that is why a guy halve as strong as you in the gym can end up winning. [This message has been edited by genF (edited September 19, 2000).] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I believe Grip Work is very essential for arm wrestling. You can train your biceps, shoulders, back, chest all you want. If your opponent has a stronger grip or wrist strength, you may be more succeptable to lose. I used to arm wrestle my buddy all the time. My lifts were a lot stronger than his. But he had superior gripping strength. When I'd arm wrestle him I'd almost have him beat, but I could not get his hand down. I'd eventually get tired and he'd come back and beat me. After I read Beyond Brawn, because the book does say that grip work is important, I started doing a lot of it. I've been doing it now for about 2 years. And my friend can't even move me in arm wrestling. I recommend this book for improving grip strength: 'Mastery of Hand Strength,' by John Brookfield. Order this book at www.amazon.com Good luck. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey canadian oak, how can shoulders and rotators be the main muscles used? your elbow does not leave the table. arm wrestle somebody, and you will realize that when you wrist gives up, the rest follows. its pretty much all in the wrist. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Guys Guys, it's all in your biceps. You're never gonna beat that guy that can take everyone in arm wrestling, cuz he's got genetics. But, if you increase your bicep strength you will notice that you are a better arm wrestler. I also agree with shoulders, my shoulders aren't really strong so if my bicep gives out, i'm screwed. Also, the longer your forearms the better you can arm wrestle, you have short forearms, you might as well just give it up. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Winning in arm wrestling is more about technique than absolute strength. Obviously, your forearm and grip strength are the most important factors. However, I would advise you to search for a training article on how to arm wrestle. It is all about gaining a mechanical advantage over your opponent. There are several ways to do this, well beyond the scope of my post however. Good luck. Genetic ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
