I've got the general idea of the movement figured out, just not the specific mechanics. So could someone please describe how to perform perfect deadlifts in detail? Thanks

here is the #1 rule for deadlifts: KEEP YOUR BACK STRAIGHT!!! i know, its hard as hell when you are lowering that weight, but just do it. your gonna have to keep the weight close to your body to do it, and personally i end every deadlift session with bruises all over my knees from keeping the correct form. it heals up within a day or 2 though.

Flex....go to www.freaksonature.com it is a lifting site with tonnes of video of deadlifts. Whatever you do, dont type Freaksofnature. if you put the "f" in to it, you get some minging porn site. Cheers bro, G.

The first thing you want to do is step up to the bar with your feet a little less than shoulder width apart. As you lower to grab the bar stop yourself and see where your weight is at. your weight should be on your heals. if you are doing things correctl;y you should be "rocked" back on your heals and grabbing the bar at the same time. i know it sounds crazy but if you do this movement correctly you should actually be pulling from your heals at all time. try it without weight first and you will see that you feel like you are going to fall onver but you have to remember that you have several hundred pounds of weight to hold you from falling backwards. It is right to keep the weight as close to your body as possible but you don't want to walk away with sore knees. that is a sign that you first movement to take the weright back to the florr is with your knees out instead of your hips back. your first movement after locking out is to shift your hips back and lower the weight in a straight line. you should walk away with sore shins however. that shows that you are bringing the weight straight up in line with your body. if you experience sore shins don't worry you will fix that problem after you are in pain after the first couple of times. believe me starting out with deadlifts and learning the proper techniques is long and difficult but after a few times of failure you will get the form. Just remember to pull from your heels, and never shift your weight to your toes.

I've been doing deads for over 10 years and still every now and then just "lose it".A long time ago somebody showed me to treat each rep as a seperate lift.Set the bar down, stay in position and REFOCUS,lift....... Works for me.
