When is the best time to do deadlifts -- on back day or leg day? I already do squats on leg day, and I think squatting and deadlifting together might be too much. On the other hand, if you do deadlifts on another day, is this too much leg training per week? I know there are other posts about deadlifts but they just say deadlifts are important, not when to do them! thanks,

ive always done my deadlifts on back day...yes they do train legs to..but not to the extent that you will overtrain them. ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica "After this show i'll be fat and happy again.....If i make it to the show...." - Lee Priest "Lets put some weight on the bar.." - Shawn Ray "IT DOESN'T MATTER" - The Rock

I have done deads and squats on leg day, but, since I do squats heavy and deads semi-heavy, it takes alot out of me...so, I do deads on back day....and, I make sure it's far away as possible from leg day.....

That depends... if you train your back as a whole, then do it on back day. I personally do them on leg day cuz that's when I work my lower back. Then I do my upper back with shoulders.

personally i have hammy/lower back day which is basically just deadlifts. after 8+ sets of deadlifts, i dont know how you guys got energy to do anything else! to me, its at least as draining as squats.

I do deadlifts....on deadlift day, or perhaps more accurately..pulling day. I basically have a pulling day, a pushing day, a squatting day and implememnt work. It has always seemed a liitle nuts to me to split the body in to "parts" which you then work on seperate days. The body doesn't understand "parts", it works as a unit, so train it as such. Examples of pulling exercises would be as follows....rows, shrugs, cleans, snatches, deadlifts, high pulls, hang cleans, any curl. Pushing...any press, jerk. Squatting...squats, front squats, overhead squats, leg press... See what i am getting at. There is no "rear delt day", just hard work. Cheers, G.

I don't have that problem because I do back and legs on the same day. That might change soon though and then I'll put deadlifts of my back day.

Gforce, That sounds like a really smart way to break up your training. I haven;'t found body part splits too successful yet. Any chance you could post or email me your training schedule? thanks,

Here is an example of one of those conventional splits: Monday/Thursday- (Pushing Exercises) Tuesday/Friday- (Pulling Exercises) I have not included accessory work (calves, abs), because people train them differently. ------------------

HIT- that routine doesn't give the bodyparts sufficient rest. You should only train each bodypart every 6-7 days..

I agree with those who say to put deads to back day - when you do the squat on leg day (which anyone should, unless havin' medical problems with it), there is little chance you could exercise deadlifts intensely enough after that. Remember, lower back keeps sore for the longest period of time, and quads are second from the exercised parts... Anyway, do what works for ya. You can try either way, and choose the best. Mylo

recoome where did you read you need 6-7days rest in between bodyparts.seems like to much rest to me.i work a physical job and still train 3-4times a week and still make gains your body will adapt to any training style there is merit to all training styles if not just variety. good luck with your training
