OK I don't know why I am going to try this routine, probbaly because arnold was on steroids, but even this level 1 program from his bible has me working out 6 times a week with only sunday off and it goes like this, Chest/Back on monday, shoulders/arms on tuesday and then legs on wed, then repeat starting on thurs and then take sunday off, the only reason I am doing this one is because the level 2 one is insane training the same bodyparts every other day, I have lifted for 3 years so I should be doing at least the level 2 program but that looks like overtraining at its best. Anybody have any comments, and in his workouts he is talking 16-20 sets per bodypart, even bi's and tri's!! Is this just riduculous to try when I am not taking any supplements?

NyYankess, hahahah, that is the funniest thing, it is totally true though, there is no way that Arnold was natural when he was doing these routines so I dont even know why he would suggest them to people, what does he think that all bodybuilders are juicers, I wish I could sit down with him for a couple hours and pick his brain on training on how this can actually work.

I like his books for some information but his workouts are definately for people using gear. I have no doubts that he was using and probably still is to some degree. ------------------

bro there is just no way youre gonna grow from 20 sets per muscle group, especially bi's and tri's.that is just sheer ignorance at its best.its no secret that arnold was on gear, and ofcourse genetics played a big role in his success.this routine might work for a pro whos life consists of eat ,train, sleep, juice.but if youve got a full time job and have a life this routine is gonna put you in a serious overtraining syndrome.if youre a hard gainer and are having trouble putting on the mass you should look into the h.i.t program its a much more effecient way for a natural to train and make great results. the funny thing is in the old mags where they interviewed arnold he said he trains 4 times a week with a much lower volume than his book.these guys are hypocrites,no one can make gains of that program unless the test is a plenty. sourjerkkkkkkkkkkkkk

In reply to Arnold must have been on Roids I have only two words "Hell,Yeah!!!!" If you even attempt to the the level two routine, can I be the one spotting you so I can drop the weight on you for being an idiot in trying this routine. This level 2 routine is absolutely out of the norm no wonder he's a freak. BUT! now on the other hand if you are on the juice then thats a different story.

im gonna quote Lee Priest on this "people are getting to obsesse and afraid by the term "overtraining"..there are no such thing..if you keep a good diet and get plenty of rest, you wont be overtraining..but ofcourse the guys that train, dont eat, drink alcohol..party all night..will blame theire loss of gains on overtraining..." my point exactly... ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica "After this show i'll be fat and happy again.....If i make it to the show...." - Lee Priest "Lets put some weight on the bar.." - Shawn Ray "IT DOESN'T MATTER" - The Rock

From what I have read, you cannot over train while on gear. The gear will help your body recover faster, hence you can work body parts twice a week with no problem. Arnold was a DBol freak. Used to eat handfuls of it. he and Franco Columbo used to go into the woods with a bunch of weights and several cases of beer. They would down the beer, do squats until they puked and then drink more beer. This could go on for hours. Those guys where too stupid for there own good. They are lucky they aren't dead!

Mr muscle your so right, people are so afraid of overtraining,it is a hard state to reach. As for Arnold his dosages that he took are mild compared to what is taken by today's pro's.

As for overtraining while on gear,I would say alot of people overdo it or as Chris T from ironmag would say, "overreach".

If I had Lee Priest's genetics and took as much drugs as he does, I'm sure I couldn't overtrain, either... I'm natural, and I train HIT style, taking each set to complete gut-busting vein-popping muscular failure. There's no fucking way I could train the same bodypart twice a week.

Hi everyone, Hello sour-jerk like some of your posts, the 1'' inch 24 hrs is comical though (wonder how many rushed to the gym to try that one). Anyway this is my 4 or 5 post today, been on this board for 7 mths but never posted. Arnold must of been on steriods (Dbol and parabolin to be precise were is favourite). I train 3 times a week that is optimium for me. I work out for 45 minutes. Couple of things if you work out for more than 1 hr you are WASTING your time. 1) If you are training for more than an hour you shouldn't be talking as much or resting in between sets as much 2) Natural tests level peak at about 45 minutes into HIT training.

i agree with muscle in the fact that peopel should be worried more about undertraing then overtraining...if you eat right and lseep enough then you have to try hard to overtrian..peace ------------------

It depends on your genetics and recovery potential. Some guys can work out 5 days a weeks and gain, some can only work out 2 days a week and gain. Dorian Yates only did a few sets a muscle group, and only worked out 3-4 days a week, and he built mass faster than the marathon-trainers. It's all individual.

Damn straight he did!! He never said he didn't either. his programs arn't to bad if you do about half of what he recommened. -----------------

If you can't take one look at Arnold and tell he's on AS it's your own fault. You can't blame him for giving you his routine cause it's what worked for him.
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 280 |
Do that for a year and you will look like you just walked out of a concentration camp.
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 227 |
His routine is no big deal. I would cut it down a bit. For my body anyways. But Arnold wasn't that big anyways, so maybe if he had cut the sets down to half he could have been bigger.
