After visiting the gym for my monthly bodyfat check, I was distressed to see that I'm slowly becoming a fat ass (170lbs @ 9% bf last month, 174lbs @ 11.5% bf this month). The trainer recommended a routine that he has been using that was suggested to him by a trainer named Sergio Pacheco. The routine looks alright, but the rep ranges seem a little high. Would I benefit significantly in terms of lean weight gain by combining high repetition and low repetition sets? For example, here is what Chest looks like. Day I - Chest (only chest) Bench Press: 30 reps - 95lb Incline Flyes: Decline Flyes: Seated Bench Press (the machine): I'm aware that muscles are not purely fast-twitch or purely slow-twich, so it seems as though I would benefit with some high rep work with moderate weight (the first few sets of bench presses) and with moderate rep heavier weight work (the last 3 exercises). In addition, the routine focuses mainly on free weight exercises with only one machine exercise per training day for most training days. Any thoughts? Thanks, [This message has been edited by Warik (edited August 11, 2000).] IP: Logged |

the work out is very high in both volume and reps. i hope he didnt recomend this as a mass workout,if any thing this looks more aerobic than anerobic. stick with a lower volume routine combined with cardio to get the most results.. sourjerkkkkk IP: Logged |

Well, according to him it is intended to put on some size to help smash through a plateau. He claims to have made some good gains from training in this fashion for a month. Normally I wouldn't consider this, but 2 months of sucky gains from a routine focusing more on heavy lifting with less 4-6 reps (a LOSS of 5lbs of lean mass and a GAIN of about 9lbs of fat in those 2 months) leaves me willing to try anything that seems like it would work. -Warik IP: Logged |

YOU MAY JUST BE OVERTRAINED AND THAT ROUTINE WOULD MAKE MATTERS WORSE.WHY DONT YOU TRY A H.I.T ROUTINE FOR A WHILE.IF YOUR OVER TRAINED IT WILL REALLY GIVE YOU DRAMATIC RESULTS.... SOURJERKKKKKKK IP: Logged |

This routine definitely seem like an aerobic type of workout. I really can't see you gaining much muscle mass from this routine. You might get the leaner look but muscle mass if not properly dieting you might be wasting your time with this exercise try pyramid training to break you plateau. IP: Logged |
