His style works but it is not THE ONLY WAY. He preaches that his style is the best to train by for any type of training. He's way off there.

Alot of people making good gains from hit style programs.I know a few and it prompted me to try it.Personally I think hit is shit. But I can't argue the fact that it DOES work for some people.

Mentzer's way of training is fairy radical in terms of the traditional bodybuilding practices, but i think that he makes some valid points. He takes it to the extreme though, like one set per excercise, and worout frequencys like one or two workouts a week.I tried the suggested H.I.T. method of training for about two months in Feb/March this year.I trained two days a week on the big lifts and avoided overlapping and isolation excersises. The result's were that i did increase in sise and stength in the first month, but by the end of the second i had adjusted to it, the only increases being in body fat, as in retrospect,i feel i was actually undertraining. Now i train 3 days a week and do two work sets per excersise, and use isolation excersises after the compond movement, like lateral raises after shoulder press.I find this is a better balance for me, but i'd never go back to volume training again bar pre contest preperation, or if i was taking A.S.

I believe in Mentzer's way of training. I still follow it. I don't believe that it's the only way to train, but it is the best way for me. I like having a social life outside of work and by working out less I get more time to be social. If you get fat while your on HIT you need to get your diet in check. Maybe you're taking in too many calories. I take in 2800-3400 a day. No more and no less. My percentages are mostly 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat. ------------------

This is for Max Muscle- I am similarly achieving the same results as you are. Do you beleive that his training is indeed the way to train? I have a question that he has not answered and maybe you can. I am interested in taking up a martial art and you know how he forbids aerobic training? Well would this interfere?

If you are worried about it effecting your gains don't. Just make sure you eat a little more, drink a little more water, and get more sleep at night.

My best gains were using a 3day heavy duty routine. 2 exercises 1-2 sets each.4-10 reps Whats mike metzers web page?

Big Red Kid, I believe in Mentzer's training, but I do not believe it is the only way to train. I don't follow everything he says. He says not to do cardio. I do 3 cardio sessions a week, with each session 20 minutes long. I also do martial arts. My advice is take what has worked for you and use it. If you can still make good gains while doing cardio, then go for it. Some people I know, just don't need cardio to be in their best shape. If I don't do cardio, my muscles look soft. If I do cardio, my muscles look more defined. Try it for yourself. Good luck. ------------------

I always make my best gains with HIT style training.Up until last year I never trained more than 3 times a week.Usually twice.I always followed Stuart McRobert's advice.Even when on the gas I make better gains.I currently am 241 lbs.at 13% bodyfat.Lately I've experimented with more training and I find I don't make any better progress so why do more than you have to.

I've tried it Menzer's way before as well and got good gains with it but nothing works forever. I belive in cycling different workouts over 3-4 month periods. So just when your body starts getting used to the same the you switch it up.

I've used a hit method routine before with some success. I think the biggest factor in the routine is the ability to be 100% intense on each work set. Not everyone is capable of doing that. They think they're going all out, but they aren't really. If you can do two sets of the same weight and sames reps back to back with minimal rest then you aren't going all out on your first set. I worked out with a guy who could just not mentally be tough and be 100% intense on his lifts so he needed to do a set or two more than what I did. I don't agree with everything that Mentzer says, but I lean more towards his method than I would a high volume/high frequency method. Keep those workouts short, intense and effective.

Mike Mentzer is definetily the Man!! There is only one valid theory for training, and all his theory is the product of basic and uncuestinable concepts of trining. If you are trining droug-free, this is the way to do it. Anyone who has sticked a plateau on the heavy duty program, should redice the frecuency and volume of his workouts until he reaches his maximal potential. If anyone is taking drougs, I can understand that the volume aproach of training is working for them.

Anyone ever train 1 time every 4-5 days? I only trained last Friday because I went on vaction. It is now Wedneday. And I feel like shit that I didnt train. But maybe this is what I need. Infrequent training to start my gains again.

Mentzer had some valid points, but it doesnt excuse him being a quack and a charlatan. There is no one way, and no best way, only ways. Cheers, G.
