This was the first time I have done any cardio in about 9 or 10 months. I kept getting sick to my stomach every time I did it so I stoped doing it for a while and LOST about 12#. Why would this be? Well, now I have gained that back and about 5 more pounds with it. I do not know where it went to though, I hope it is lean not fat. (probably some of both) Well, I ran that 2 miles in 15:43, I wasn't pushing myself that hard. Do you guys think this is ok for not doing it in such a long time? I weigh 200# now. Does anyone know why I would be getting sick doing cardio, or why I would lose weight after stopping cardio? (over training??) I use to do the stair climber after lifting for about 30 to 40 minutes. Sometimes my heart rate would be over 200, but I mostly kept it at 185 to 195. IP: Logged |

Ha Ha, I was thinking to my self 2 miles in about 15 min, hell I can do 5 in the same time, then I realised I'm in canada and it 5 KM, so we're about the same. I recently stopped running to bulk up and my weight also went down slighly (2-3 lb) but it came back after a week or 2. Don't know why. Are you eating before you run? Probably not but just wondered if that was the stomic problem was about. Make sure your drinking enough H2O. IP: Logged |

I remember back when I was in the Army. If you ran 2 miles in under sixteen minutes you passed the PT test. Actually it's slow as fuck although I probably couldn't do it right now if my life depended on it. IP: Logged |

come on guys..cardio means you shouldnt raise your hr above 80% of mhr. the clue is burning fat and at the same time NOT breaking down muscle fibers. if you dont have any ways to measure your hr then a good way to measure it is by being able to lead a conversation all the time while doing your cardio. also i would suggest the cardio session not being under 30 minutes for maximum fat burning benefits. ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica "After this show i'll be fat and happy again.....If i make it to the show...." - Lee Priest "Lets put some weight on the bar.." - Shawn Ray IP: Logged |

Let's really clarify something here. Aerobics would be keeping your heart rate in the zone (60-85% depending on who you talk to), but you could also do some type of anaerobic activity such as interval training windsprints which would also be cardio work. Personally, I'm not so convinced doing aerobics is necessary to decrease your bodyfat levels. I think diet is a big contributing factor and I think doing interval training, such as sprinting for a certain distance and then walking/jogging for equal distance is a more effective way to change your body composition. At one point I hadn't done any type of aerobic activity in two years and I was at 7.5% BF based on the 5 point skinfold caliper test. I've brought this up on other boards and I'll do it again. I think it is a valid analogy, although others will disagree. Take sprinters vs long distance runners...which body type/compostion would you rather have? IP: Logged |

Cabexbx can you please post the5 point skin caliper test. I have the calipers but don't know where to find out how to do the 5 point test. I have searched and can't find it anywhere. thanks. -LuckyDog- ------------------ IP: Logged |

You don't need cardio to lean out, just eat less and eat right. I do cardio because I want to be in shape and not passing out after playing b-ball w/ my friends after a half hour. Yeah sprinters look big but they do run long distances when training, by long I mean like 3 miles not 10. But they also weight train for speed. Distance runners are constantly running 5+ miles every day if not more, that's why there lean. You can lose weight without cardio, and you can gain mass while doing cardio. Just gotta have the nutrition, rest and water in the right places. IP: Logged |

LuckyDog, Damn dude you had to ask me that didn't you? lol, Alright let's see if I can remember. It was the abs, tricep, chest, thigh and back. Is that right? I think that's what it was but I'm not one hundred percent certain. I had the sports med people do it at the college I was going to at the time. New Natural, IP: Logged |

Yeah they don't do 3 miles in a row but mile sprints are pretty tough man, I was a sprinter. In practice 75% of the time is devoted to speed (that includes weightlifting)the rest is endurance. It may not seem like it but you need to have great cardio health to run a 100, 200, and a relay or something in a meet. They don't want you to be winded in any of them so endurance is key in sprinting. IP: Logged |

2 miles in 15:43, eh? Not too bad. In my younger days I ran 2 miles in 11:23.5 ------------------ IP: Logged |

I know it was a slow time, but I don't think it was too bad for not doing any type of cardio in a long time. IP: Logged |
