Okay guys...I want your opinions on this. I'm currently doing a pyramid plan and on leg days I'm having trouble with grip on the sldl. Obviously my ham's are much stronger than my forearms and by the time I get to my last set with enough weight to make my ham's fail, my forearms are ready to fall off. Should I just grin and bear it or look into to some wrist/grip wraps so I can load more weight on my sldl's? I am building forearms too so I don't want to do anything to take away from building their strength. On the other hand, I want my hamstrings to be on maximum effort too. Any thoughts are appreciated.

You could try a little bit of chalk; however, if your forearms don't completely FAIL (as in the bar slips out of your hands before you finish the set), then you should just bear it. Wrist straps and gloves would just rob you of extra progress on your forearms.

Don't resort to straps unless it is absolutely necessary, where you have tried and tried, but are no longer able to maintain control of your weights.

It gets pretty damn near slipping out of my hands...I do wear gloves though because I don't like rough hands (I am a female after all!). But I DON'T want to rob any gains from legs or forearms...

Yes Mr M - I get your point...don't get your feelings hurt big guy...the more info I can get the better.

I know how you feel, I get that occasionally on regular deads and just a couple days ago on sldl's. I just get irritated at the weights, squeeze harder and tell myself the iron is not going to win dammit! (May sound goofy, but, hey, whatever works...)

Oh yeah, almost forgot about this. I ran into grip troubles at one time on shrugs until I started concentrating the power of my grip towards my index and middle fingers (vs evenly throughout). It helped a lot and my grip is balancing back out now. Will it translate into helping sldl's? Couldn't say at this point, but it may be worth a try.

Use straps.

ag - conflicting info...thats what I was afraid of... I've never used straps before...any one kind better than the other or all they all the same? I think I've decided just to use them on my last and heaviest set...for the rest I'll concentrate on improving my grip.

i rarely use em..except if i go heavy on deadlifts..if i do free chins, or at my 2 last sets of heavy dumbbell rows..as long as you dont become a strap-junkie i think its just fine to use them..

they mainly come in one style..but be sure you buy some where the hole you put your hand in are NOT fixed...

sldl are the only exercise I use straps with. I would recommend using them. I can do 305 with the straps, about 50lbs less without.
