Have you tried deadlifts or power cleans? They help to thicken up you back muscles. IP: Logged |

If you haven't already, learn to DEADLIFT! Use it regularly and you will add thickness to just about everywhere. I like standard or stiff-legged for my leg workouts and I'll do them out of the power rack on back day. Also, take SJ's advice and start doing d.b. pullovers on back day. Do some chins and rows and you're all set. Switch around the order of the exercises, go heavy and experiment with different rep ranges(I like anywhere from 3-8 for deads and 6-8 for most of the other exercises). Learn to really squeeze your back muscles when working them(mind-muscle connection). Good Luck! ------------------ IP: Logged |

It looks like everyone is in love with dead lifts. There is nothing wrong with that either. But besides dead lifts, I like to hit the lat machine hard too. I think you can get a very nice back from doing a few movements of this machine. I like the wide grip pull downs to chest, close grip pulls, reverse grip pulls, and D-bar pulls. All of these are great in my opinion. The form is where it's at. It has to be slow and controlled. Lean back slightly, then pull the bar down touching the chest every rep. No swinging aloud. Keep the chest out the whole time, extending your arms out the whole way to get a full stretch at the top. I hope this did not insult you. I had know idea how long you have been lifting. A lot of people have bad form on the lat machine and I just wanted to make sure you are performing these movements properly. IP: Logged |

Consider xdawgs routine.Something like this- week 1-3 deads 5 x5,pullup 3 x10,rows 3 x6-8. week 4-6 rows 5 x5,deads 3 x6-8,pullup 3 x10. week 7-9 pullup 5 x10,rows 3 x6-8,deads 3 x6-8. 11-12 sets a week for 9 weeks.You'll be all set to drive on after that. IP: Logged |

True, you can get a nice back with proper use of the lat machine, but you can get a great back with deads (thickness, overall strength) and pullups (width). Those two movements are critical and should be a foundation for back development. If you want thickness - deads are it. They will also increase your strength in squatting tremendously. Bad form on deads can get you seriously injured, so it is of even more importance on this particular exercise. Deads are all technique. I am in love with deadlifts. ------------------ IP: Logged |

For me, lat pull down has been the biggest thing for adding width to my back, its my fav. back exercise, I've just started deads and haven't gotten use to them yet. IP: Logged |
