Just took a week off and put a new split together for myself. I will now have an arms only day, bi's and tri's. I want some opinions here. How many sets to do. 9 per muscle or 12??? Any suggestions.

I recently made a new split and I like having 12 each. You might also want to incorporate some forearm excercises to add more weight to the lifts.

I also like 12 and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by doing your arms on a seperate day!

If I am reading this right and you are doing 12 sets for tris alone and 12 sets for bis alone, you are over training big time. They are small muscles and should be treated as such. 3 sets of 4 movements, or 4 sets of 3 movements. Good form and intensity level play a huge key in this.

Hotblood... I train 12 sets for bi's and 12 for tri's... and the only side effect I see is GROWTH. Now... you saying "3 sets of 4 movements, or 4 sets of 3 movements" is the same thing as 12 sets anyway.
Then I train forearms on their own day with calves.

12 sets is not overtraining if you have a week to rest. Go Ahead.

Hey, I feel so stupid. I guess you are right Big Brother Val. That would be 12 sets.

In my op do 9. If you train your chest shoulders and back heavy most your arm work is already done for you. About a year and a half ago i had a powerlifting meet and to train for it i didn't even do arms just my three lifts and my arms blew up! But hey to each his own, If you ask me it's over training, if you have enought energy to do 12 sets for your arms your other 11 sets you weren't putting in 110% effort!
