![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I get real bad shin splints also. I ice mine a lot. What you do is get a paper cup, fill it with water and put in freezer. When its frozen just start peeling the top of the cup and rub the ice up an down on the areas that hurt. Othe than that I recommend just staying off of them for a while. Good Luck! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Go to a shoe store that can give you a proper shoe to correct the problem. I had the same thing from running 3 times a week on pavement and after I got the correct shoe, it went away just like that. I went to The Running Room store, they can give you a computer printout of your foot and tell you where your putting the most pressure on it and give you the shoe that works best. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I too run the grid iron and i used to take a beating in the shins. But what the team trainer told me to do was to get some foam and make little donuts. Place the donuts beside your ankles, behind the heel and under the heel. I havn't had any since. For me it was the lateral movement excercises that did it. I don't know if this will help you, but check with your trainer first. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I would still try a shoe store that specializes in running, they should be able to fit you with some kind of insert for your shoe that can solve your problem. Good Luck. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, good shoes will help but not eliminate your prob., your prob overtraining with your runs(too frequent), back off all high impact exercises and see if you can do some low to no impact shit like eliptical machine, biking, swimming to condition yourself for fball. Time off is what your shins really need, ice , ibuprofen might help but only temp. ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was having the same problem and a friend of mine showed me an excercise you can do to help cure the problem. i do it twice a week the same days i do calf workouts, not sure the real name but i call them foot raises, i use a 25 lbs. plate and set it on the my toes and just raise and lower it, youll feel the muscle in the front of your shin working. i do two sets of 50 with a minutes rest in between. try it out and see how it works. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I would seriously consider seeing a Active technique Release practitionar in your area or a get a deep tissue massage around the calves and shin area's.It hurts but I garuentee(sp) you it will work wonders. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() eagle dude, the reason why you get shin splints is because your feet are fucked up, i used to get them all the time, but i went to the doctors and they told my that my arch was uneven on my two feet. my left foot had a smaller arch then my right, causing an imbalance in my walking and running, and it directly interferes with, your shins first, then knees, then lowerback. go do an orthopedic doctor and get some custom made soles that will correct this problem, you can easily slip them into your cleats. they are really expensive, mine were $800.00 but my dad has a kick ass insurance plan and it pays it for me. anyways i dont know if this is your problem but it might just be worth it to check it out, problems like these are easy to fix while your young but once you stop developing, corrections are much harder to make. so do you body a favour and have this checked out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanx for all of your help bro's. The pain has finally started to go away. I am going to the foot docter or whatever its called on friday. I got my practice cleats and they support my ankles soo much better than my cross trainers, that i think was a big factor, also i got some really nice and cushy insoles for my cleats. ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hey EagleDude, I have a lot of friends on the Track team with the very same problem. What they have been doing is heating a lot of Jello. I know it sounds weird but supposedly the Jelatin in Jello helps, I have never tried, but I think it is worth a try. Use about an hour before practice and see what you get. Anyways, Later!
