I used to train 5 times a week, but, during my exam period, I was froced to cut this down to training only twice a week. During that two month period, I reduced my training to only 1 all out set. In which, I'd usually struggle to hit 6 reps myself, then my partner would assist me to do as many forced reps as I can, followed by partials ( if the excercise permits) and then finally strip sets. In all, I may hit 20 reps in a single set. Of course, I'd do two warm up sets of 10-12 reps just to get the blood flowing and the muscles warmed up. Strangely, I managed to pack on twenty pounds onto my bench during that period! I think it had to do with cutting down my training frequency. Unfortunately, that enormous strength gain was only in my bench, my other lifts only improved marginally. Plus the strength gain was not accompanied by mass gains..... . But hey, at least I'm stronger in my bench! IP: Logged |

Well, you've basically used some HIT concepts. In HIT, you only train each body part no more than once per week and you only use one set per exercise, not counting warm ups. In HIT, you train to muscle failure. Partial reps can be used and forced reps can be used. I've gained 40 pounds of muscle in a two year period. That's more muscle I've ever gained. I have never gained that much muscle using other methods of training. I used the Weider method, which got me no where but overtrained. Try HIT. The gains you are seeing are from your body having more time to rest.Your body is playing catch up.Also your body is shocked from changing your routine.Changeing your routine around does wonders for progress. IP: Logged |
