Oddman, do not eat the egg raw. Cook it well. It will not effect the protein values very much. Raw egg can contain Salmonella which will put all your lifting on hold for at least a week. Play it safe and cook them. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Vitaman (edited June 24, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Eggs have about 6-7 grams of protein per egg. Never use raw eggs. Leave that to Rocky. If you want to use eggs as a protein source, you should use egg whites. Egg yolks have a lot of fat and cholesterol. Personally, I hate egg whites with a passion. I use egg beaters. It has 6 grams of protein per serving and no fat. Egg beaters is a egg white product, but it tastes like a regular egg. ------------------ IP: Logged |

If you want to eat raw eggs, get the "pasteurized" egg whites in the carton. These will solve your salmonella problem IP: Logged |

You will not have a problem with cholesterol by eating three eggs a day. One: your body does not absorb the cholesterol from food very well. Two: an active lifestyle is the key to lower cholesterol levels. Don't go hog wild with them, but you can eat a lot more than what you hear in the media. And if you're asking how I know this or if I'm full of it, I have a degree in poultry science. That info is based off of science, not "food police politics." ------------------ IP: Logged |

ok, finally someting i know a little about. Egg protein is very rich in one amino acid type called albumin. The human body requires 20 essential amino acids, and while egg has others, it is important to eat other foods that have them-basically the balanced diet thing. As an extra note to what other people have said, virtually all commercially produced eggs (i.e. what you buy in the shops) have a good possiblity of salmonella in them. This nasty liitle bug can withstand temperatures of 80*c, which is pretty damn hot. To ensure you nuke all the buggers the whole egg has to reach 80*c, and you know this because at this temperature the egg solidifies, hence it is not that healthy to have a runny egg, sunny-side up egg, easy or whatever. If you boil them, hard boil em. And im pretty sure that you shouldn't have too many eggs a day. They are very high in cholesterol and LDLP, all of which means that you should munch them in moderation. IP: Logged |
